calguns gun show
I was kicking around an idea of having a gun show here in San Diego. I was thinking of renting out a hall and charge for entrance maybe 10 bucks for adults 5 for kids under 16. all profits will go to CGF.
just have everyone bring your guns, if you want to sell or buy, sort of like a swap meet type of show. I will ask some FFL's to be there to do transfers. what do you guys think of this idea? would you guys come out with your guns? we will have tables for you to set up. Eric.

I'd go. I bet you could get most of the San Diego county shops to come out and set up a booth. Though, I wonder if there are special event permits required for any event involving firearms?

I'd be down for a S.D. show- it'd be cool to have something outside of the regular Del Mar one. With all the military guys/girls and outdoors enthusiasts in the county, you'd have a good turnout.
I think good advertising and word of mouth would make the difference between a small swap meet setting and a larger expo with all SD shops and FFLs. Plus keeping a low vendor fee for private sellers would attract more of them join in too. Overall you have a great idea. I hope it happens because I'd love to go and find some cool items for sale. |

First, you have to find a venue that will allow a gun show. That won't be easy. Maybe the Scottish Rite place in Mission Valley. Once you find a venue, you'll need to drop a deposit. Probably at least a few grand. You probably need signoffs from PD and the fire department. And liability insurance. And security and probably pay to have police / Deputy Sheriffs. Maybe even an ambulance standing by.
I promise you, Crossroads of the West does not set out to provide an expensive, hot, crowded event with no guns and high prices and a bunch of useless crap that everyone loves to complain about. There just aren't that many people willing to come in from out of state and sell here... the regulations we see as buyers are NOTHING compared to what the dealers have to go through. I do think this could be a good idea, though. I would look for a central San Diego County location, and approach San Diego gun stores to see what they would like to see out of it. Ask them stuff like how much table space they think they could use. Look into what that table space costs with other gun shows. You'd need a plan to show how you're going to advertise and market it, and how you're going to bring in people who are more likely to be buyers. Bill it as a "guns only" event, and give up the idea of making up revenue by selling space to people with non-firearms-related stuff. Your main focus needs to be to show vendors why this will be a good value for them, and that doesn't mean the lowest price possible. They're going to be willing to pay for exposure to potential customers, and they know that most gun show attendees now aren't that. But with the sheer volume of people moving through a show, they figure they can filter out enough buyers to make their attendance worthwhile. If you can get a venue and all necessary permits, and can get enough vendors in, the only issue with getting bodies in the door will be getting the word out. Frankly, I wouldn't try it without a bankroll... it's tough to see how a brand-new show could be profitable out the door. Unfortunately, the days of just going forward with an event like this are long gone, especially in CA
