RivCo requirements for reference letters...
So I am filling out my application and want to choose who will give my letters of reference... It doesn't specify any particulars about what should be in the letter, length, etc.
I know they will ask "what should I include in the letter", and as of now my answer is "not sure". Any help would be great! |

First, someone is likely to drop by here and inform you that they can't "require" reference letters. I have no wish to engage in the legal debate on that topic. I did my three reference letters, and whether or not "they're supposed to" I actually found it kind of cool to read, in black and white, what people I have known for a long time had to say about me. :-)
If you look through the information (IIRC its somewhere there in application stuff) the writer of the letter is supposed to state that they know you are applying for a permit. That's the only requirement I remember anyway. I chose people who had known me for a long period of time. I don't know if that helped or not, but it just seemed to me that gave the letters more credibility. One of the friends I asked to write a letter for me lives out of State presently (and at the time of my application) but we had known one another almost 20 years. |

Basically yes.. Short or long no matter just make sure they write they know you are applying for a riverside county sheriff CCW .

My letter writers all happened to also be "gun" people (except for one) and mentioned words to the effect of know that I am a safe and responsible gun owner. The one who wasn't really a gun person was someone I had taught to shoot, and that was mentioned in the letter she wrote. I think all of mine wrote about 3 paragraphs. Without digging them out, I can tell you none of them took more than one piece of paper printed out. |

On the CCW application, it states what they want on the letter. Like davbogg said, it has to have somewhere in the letter that they are aware of your intention for a CCW, and I believe it has to have their adress and a daytime phone number...also tell your friends that they may get a call

I would choose people who were more affluential if you could. I chose an insurance exec(NOT a gun guy) a RN (New Gun Guy) and a friend who runs Military ops as a civilian contractor. All well established and more "stable". Not saying your friend who works at best buy isnt perfectly fine but your neighbor who is also a small business owner might make a little more sense.
