TRP Full Rail vs MC Operator
Well.......finally decided to get a 1911 for myself and have narrowed my decision down to NIB SA TRP Operator and a NIB MC Operator. The TRP is $1,900 and the MC $1,200. Is the TRP worth the extra dough and why.

The TRP is a fantastic pistol, but at the end of the day, it's a high-end production pistol, and unfortunately, the price aligns it with a few hard-fit, semi-custom pistols. $1,900 to spend, I would order a Springfield Custom Carry, or a Baer. The difference between a Custom Carry and TRP is astounding.
Regarding the difference, the TRP will have a nicer fit and finish, and the pistol is assembled from hand-selected components as opposed to pulled from a production line. Worth the money is a subjective question. |

I had both. The TRP Full Rail seems to be nicer in fit. It also has the front strap checkering, target night sights and bull barrel. It is one of the high end production 1911's.
As Press Check noted, only you can decide if it is worth the difference. To me it was. Good luck! Both are good guns. |

If you get the TRP Full Rail you're not going to have many holster choices. Bull barrels also don't really make any difference. I'd save my money and get something else.

I beg to differ. The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

How about somewhere in the middle and get a TRP Operator Half Rail .... save some money and get most of the same features (railed, bull barrel, target sights) as the full rail minus half the rail

Not to make the decision more convoluted but if you're looking for a railed 1911 for under $2000 I would highly recommend the Dan Wesson specialist
I have a specialist and a non-railed TRP. My brother had a mc operator. The trp is better fit than the mc operator and a few extra features like magwell and checkered front strap. I just did a mini review on the Dan Wesson specialist but no mim, hand fit and cheaper than trp it's basically better in almost every category. It's definitely at least worth looking into. Downside is just that it needs to be sse'd |

The half rail is what I really wanted, just cant seem to find one. Found both the MC and the Full Rail only after many months of looking. I typically shoot a P220 and a USP 45 both with trigger work performed, then My son got the TRP no rail and after a long time not recognizing 1911 performance decided I have to get one. I really like the MC but the Full Rail with the added weight to me feels better more balanced. Arghhh.....its just, if your going to spend over a $1k and what I thought the Full Rail is that much better, spend the extra money and get that. I wasn't sure if there were significant technical and or spec differences between the two. Thank you everyone for your help and I still cant decide. I'm going to stop by IVE in VTA today to see if they still have a full rail. The had one at the Gunshow last weekend.

Vaporware is a product that is often mentioned by a manufacturer yet never comes to market.

I have never been able to find any version of the TRP in CA for MSRP and I'm on several CA Gun stores lists. Any direction to find one would be greatly appreciated.

Willing to shop online?...long long long wait time for the full rail
http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...s_id/411534947 (has reserve feature) Some 1/2 rail at under 1500 (in-stock), SSE needed. http://www.kygunco.com/springfield-t...barrel-71-1965 Some on GB as well for under 1500. |

The only real advantage the TRP has is the front strap checkering. Many find the 20 lines per on the TRP too aggressive without gloves on. I own the reg. TRP and the MC OP. And do not find the difference in the two to be all that dramatic. If you like the OD finish and can live without the tacticool TRP rollmarks, just get some skateboard tape for the grip and call it good.

Understand the meaning, but not the reference to a pistol that's ordered.

Unreal.....there are TRP half rails available on GB. Does anyone know a FFL in Ventura County or close that would receive and do SSE? I work in Thousand Oaks but travel to Pasadena and the Westside weekly.

TRP's are nice but not $1900 nice. For that kind of money, I would get a Baer Custom Carry. Are Baers tight? Yes they are but they loosen up real nice. My Baer SRP is built like a beast and runs on all types of ammo. If your dead set on a railed 1911, I would get the MC Operator and a S&A magwell. I'm not a fan of TRP's bull barrel and the 20 LPI front strap checkering.

Either of the two will get the job done. If I can only have one 1911, I'd get the TRP. . |

I keep hearing that, but I either got an exceptional MC OP or a Monday made TRP. I really see very little difference in the parts or build quality of the two and as far as trigger. No different at all, actually the MC is a bit lighter at 4.9 lbs while my TRP is 5.2. I am in no way knocking the TRP, just stating what I see with mine. Both shoot excellent and on a par.

1,900 for a SA?? I think the fit and finish on SA is crap. Especially the rear where beaver tail is, frame and slide blending. I make sure to check out these areas when I go to gun shops and SA usually looks like crap. Also the rear of the extractor, circle part on back of slide is usually sticking out. Horrible job of blending. I dont know how people spend that much on a SA. Get a Baer, Wesson, used Wilson, etc.
As you can tellim not a fan of SA. Just my two worthless cents. Google springfield armory slide overhang or frame overhang. You will see. I see this all the time with SA. Cant say kimber, sig or other 1911s have this issue. Perhaps colt, but then again who cares about colts.

I'm a bit biased for the MC Operator. But, honestly, you couldn't go wrong with either.

Well.......picked up the Les Baer "Ultimate Tactical Carry" and put 150 rds through it last night. "Fubar" you are correct, that at this price point, a Baer was the way to go. Baer build quality is absolutely superb and unbelievably accurate straight out of the really nice brown cardboard box it comes in. It doesn't have that "tactic-coolness" or sexiness of a full railed TRP but it really is a very special 1911. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Owned both of them and the TRP half rail at the same time. Took them to the range several times to compare.
The full rail was more accurate, not picky, and we'll balanced. You can spend more but why? If you want a half rail, the TRP Operator is off roster, while the MC Operator is not. The biggest physical difference between these two are the sights and barrels. The biggest performance difference is accuracy. Time for candy

Congrats on picking up the Les Baer. I love my TRS. Be sure to break her in with the recommended 500 rounds before taking her apart for the first time. Also remember to apply Break Free every hundred rounds or so during break in.
