IMO - search youtube for a gun review of your particular model and you'll likely find several.

Almost all gun reviews on youtube have a take-down and reassembly section. Watch a bunch of them carefully and step-by-step follow what they do.

Looks like it could be an issue with your guide rod spring

Look in the back, can the sear be tripped (very thin screw driver) or removing the slide plate, that will generally let loose the slide.

Sorry, no S&W in my stable, but that is how XD/Glock can be released if they are stuck (from the back).

Good Luck!

Manual here: Model SD9/SD40 Self Defense Pistol

Try the disassembly again. Gun is unloaded, right? Just double checking.

Quote:
- Depress the takedown catch (from both sides of the frame) with your thumb and forefinger (Figure 14).
- Move the slide forward while continuing to hold the take-down catch down (Figure 15).

In other words, go backwards in your steps.

See if that helps and let us know.

Dude! Did you try what I suggested?

You need to muscle that mfr FORWARD, not back.

You're not going to break it (and if you do it's under warranty! ).

You're probably not square on the rails, my guess. Scratch that, looking at the manual a bit more the guide rod might be misaligned. Still, shouldn't prevent you from moving it forward off the frame and restarting.

Does the take down catch move up and down? Or is that stuck too?
