I think there is a unit out of Ontario, I considered them when I first moved out here but decided to go 13F and be closer to where I live, plus I wasn't sure if I'd pass the flight physical.

Ontario is closer than where I drive now. I've been in the Air Guard for 13 (almost 14) years. I'm actually sick of the crybaby USAF pansies and want to go Army. I've done jobs ranging from Flight medic on a c-130 to cook. I think it would be fun being a chopper gunner for my last 6-10 years. i will have to look into it when I return.

1-140th Aviation Assault out of Los Alamitos, and the MOS you are looking for is 15T. While there is no actual MOS for what you are looking to do a 15T is your best bet. 15T is a Blackhawk repairman. When they are assigned to a flight company they become a Crew chief. First and foremost they are responsible for the aircrafts' day to day maintenance and the passengers/cargo on board. There just happens to be a 240 in front of you when you are down range.

The guys that get the job as "door gunner" are pulled from other units with little regard to MOS and its a crap shoot at being in the right place at the right time, aviation units do not maintain or hold slots for people that cannot contribute to supporting the aircraft stateside.

1/184 AVCRAD out of Fresno, The utilize UH-60's and should be up for another push in the future! Good luck getting into the Aviation field, you'll need to be either a flight mechanic or in the good graces of the Chief Warrant that will let you be crew chief...

1/184 is Light Infantry. Why would they have an AVCRAD?

ETA - Did you mean the 1106th?

BTW, Thanks for the acronym. Had to look that one up! LOL

^ Genius! 1/184 Aviation as well as 1/184 Inf as well as 1/184 quarter master! Amazing how all these different fields have same designators but different batallions as well as brigades! Thanks for trying to correct me though!

Still not seeing it anything other than Infantry in Google (184th AVN during Vietnam and 184th QM during WWII). And as far as me trying to correct you, get off your high horse, I was asking about it, not telling you that you are wrong.

Since I can't seem to find anything, do you mind posting a link or something showing current/active non-infantry 1/184th units? Thank you.

GAU is the Air Force nomenclature for a gun weapon system: Gun, Aircraft, Unit

Their version of the M4 is known as the GAU-5 or GUU-5. The M-134 is the GAU-2 or GAU-17 depending on application.

In other words, what you wrote makes no sense whatsoever. A "GAU" could be anything from a pistol to a 105mm howitzer.

sorry , if you want to get technical they had 7.62 rounds feeding into the side so it was probably an M134

You're the one who tried to get "technical" with a term you didn't know.

If you don't know the nomenclature, if you don't know what it means, don't use it.

Two different units.

1st Battalion 184th Infantry (Air Assault) has no organic air assets, just like any other air assault infantry battalion in the US Army.

ETA: Apparently they aren't even Air Assault anymore.

1106th AVCRAD (Aviation Classification and Repair Depot) is now known as the 1106th TASMG (Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group). It is, as the name suggests, an aviation repair and maintenance organization.

During my time at OTAG, if I recall correctly, the 1106th AVCRAD had pilots assigned, to test and certify repaired aircraft, but no organic aircraft. Several were attached from other state assets so the pilots could maintain their certifications. That wouldn't usually be the case with an active Army AVCRAD or similar organizations, and it is doubtful the AVCRAD would have deployed with those borrowed aircraft.

Sounds good to me. Thanks. Stay safe!
