Roof Dual Band Ham Antenna Mounting Suggestions?
My google-fu has only turned up antenna recommendations. I have settle on the X50a. Now, how do I mount it?
Stucco front and rear. Tar and gravel roof. I was thinking of just clamping a mast to a vent pipe. A stud finder would not work to mount a tripod. Any other ideas? Any other considerations? Grounding? We don't get much lightening in SF. How do you protect the cable at the roof line? Thanks in Advance.

picture of roof inside and out?
you're going to want to bolt it and reseal it. you also need to ground it. if you have ac in roof, you can probably just ground to whatever your ac is grounded to. what does the antenna recommend for mounting?

Here are the pics. Not much up there and flat.
Only 110v in ceiling, no ac. Antenna comes with mast brackets. http://www.diamondantenna.net/pdfdoc...structions.pdf Pic I had while fixing a leak. Underside of roof.

You should be able to mount a pipe flange and a few feet of heavy walled pipe to your roof and then mount your antenna to the pipe. Add some bracing underneath the roof so the 4 lags have extra material to grab onto. Use roofing tar or henerys to waterproof and seal the flange and bolts to prevent future leaks.
If you drill a hole through your roof in the middle of the mounted flange you can route your antenna coax through the mounting pipe into your shack. Add a pair of 90 degree fittings at the top of the pipe to keep out water. You can run a ground braid from either the metal flange or the antenna to a water pipe .

There is no access to the 18" space between the ceiling and roof unless I punch a hole in the sheet rock. I would rather not do that. Also, there is no plumbing in the ceiling.
I could run a ground wire down the front of the house to the service ground. Seems like I am getting in a little deep. Maybe I will just use a telescoping mast when needed. There are only two weekly nets that I want to participate in anyway. http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Produc...tid=MFJ-1919EX

Got it. Mount the pipe flange to the center of weather proofed 24x24x3/4 plywood and use a couple blocks as anchors for the plywood. Worst case senerio it somehow blows over.
