Default Headed to Regionals

Headed to the MAC VII Regional chanpionships and California Combat Match (TAG Match) on Monday as a member of Team California. Service weapons varying distance from 25-500 yards with iron and optics (16) and m9 to 30 yards. Lots of good physical tests mixed in. Match lasts about a week, headed up a week early to train!

Wish me luck!

Is this limited to the NG only?

How does a Reservist get into the know about these matches?

Do they have to be unit sponsored?

Do they have to be on orders?

Do they have to use unit weapons?

Can personal owned weapons be used so long as they are milspec?

Are off the rack weapons provided?

What are the ammo logistics (supplied at match, or BYO)?

**********

Basically, how does a reservist that's not going to get on orders, not going to get unit sponsored, not going to be able to pull weapons/ammo out of the armory attend such matches.

I suspect the answer is such Reservist is SOL.

Regardless, good luck

All service members in a paid status are eligible. You can walk on the EIC only with civilian weapon in spec I THINK. But the match it’s self must be on paid status with duty weapons from the unit. Ammo provided at the match.

Go to Facebook and follow the CA military department Marksmanship team

Yea, that's not going to happen "E-V-E-R".

I could ""forge" orders to look like I'm on paid status (because I know how to make them look, and know that no one will validate them), but I certainly couldn't draw a pistol and rifle out of the armory, and I would have to get there with a military weapon in a civilian POV vehicle (big no, no).

The ONLY reason I'd be allowed at the EIC match is because the CMP wouldn't validate the results of a selective participation match (everyone or no one).

This continues to be the theme of these matches, and it frustrates me to no end. The Pacific Navy Fleet Match at Camp Pendleton seems to be my only game in town.

Wait why not? First, you can POV a gov weapon. Takes a COL signature memo witch is simple to do. Second, your right, you can walk on the EIC reguardless of paid status. Why couldn’t get you get orders?

This kind of stuff in my observation is very unit driven, and my higher doesn't drive it. As a company commander, the best I could do is offer these events as a replacement event of leu of a scheduled Drill date, but it would be entirely on the soldier to participate.

I can't even get my higher to pay off my Government Travel Card on time.

I don't have an O6 in my pocket, and to get authorization would take a lot of time, and lobbying. I could probably do it "eventually".

However, the logistics of the Armory weapon just isn't there. It would have to be withdrawn and returned all during the time line of the orders which would also include going to and from the event itself. So an event not local to the unit armory itself just isn't feasible.

That's the irony of the sensitivity of weapons and ammo. I would rather a $500K truck burn to the ground than lose a $600 crappy M16 or have to investigate the misplacement of a single bullet.

*****

That all said, I do think the best chance I have at attending these things in the future is to get on the USAR Marksmanship Team, however, I need to greatly build up my competitive resume before I submit for consideration. Even then, being a member of the team is only an "additional duty", and wouldn't allow me to replace competitions with Drill dates.

But wouldn't that be a DREAM, imagine being a Reservist that only attends shooting competitions in replacement of Drill weekends and Annual Training would be nationals at Camp Perry.

All of that is excuses. There is hundred of competitors here from private and up and all of those issues can easily be fixed. First, Tavel days are included in the orders. Drawing and returning weapons is normal. At least in the National Guard, the State Marksmanship program, or be national guard Marksmanship Training Center In camp Robinson Arkansas pays for the matches and travel. You need to look into what program the reserves have because “unit driven” events being dismissed by the comander as a long shot is WHY the unit isn’t driving the event. I am on the (currently) state team, it doesn’t replace my m-day obligations, it is additional. The state team is a event deal, so you can be one day and not be next. You have to place on the order of merit list at the state match to be considered. I don’t know exactly what events the reserves have but I would imagine they would compete in the same events as active. Don’t dismiss it, look into it. Orders, DTS and weapons are administrative things that are easy to do. I have traveled half way across the country with two m16s and a m9 in a pelican case through the airlines, it’s not rocket science. I may have been mistake. About the Col signature too. Look up the reg. When you are on orders your weapon is a “Marksmanship weapon” and I think you may need CMD signature. I can’t say that for sure. Talk to other commanders, reach out to the Army Marksmanship unit. Don’t give up on your soldiers or yourself and write it off as too difficult. The most crippling thing for a Soldjers career is a comander that dismisses things as too far out of reach and just says forget it. ( I was told once that these matches were only for the infantry line comanies) I wasted 6 years before I found out they are for everyone and now I have the opportunity to shoot.

That is a FACT! Submitting TECs are just as bad. I don’t even submit them anymore unless out of pocket costs are a lot. The paperwork isn’t worth it. Sometimes I have to submit forms twice or three times. The online system is better but I still have to deal with the people...which is a pain. Especially when they are lazy as XXXX!

My DTS administrator got his access suspended because he used his travel card at a Casino. Now our DTS submissions are all jacked up, and especially those that were in the middle of the travel and approval process during the time he lost his admin rights.

As a result I have a $1300 flight that has never been paid on my travel card, and sure as hell can't pay that out of pocket. So my travel card has been canceled by Citi Bank. I can't travel now unless on group orders.

That's how it sounded to me: apart from having your M-day commander sign off on the recommendation, that's as far as your unit is going to be involved unless it conflicts with your IDT schedule.

Apart from that, have fun. Is it at SLO? We had some soldiers recently who did Best Warrior and they each got 200 rounds of 240 ammo. They were like "is that a lot?" haha

This is a week and a half of shooting. Pistol rifle and shotgun. From 5-500 yards. It’s a blast
