Default Refinishing underfolder AK

I parked my AK when it was built and now I want a black finish instead of the gray. Anyways if I were to duracoat the rifle would I have to disassemble the underfolder. I want to refinish it without taking the underolder off. Any recommendations?

I'm kind of in the dark here, you need to dismantle the rest of the gun completely to put any kind of a proper finish on it, what's the problem with taking the under folder off ?

Also something to consider is that the park has oil soaked into it (that is what makes park rust resistant) So getting all of the oil out of the park so that the duracoat/ceracoat/paint will stick is going to be very difficult if not impossible.
Dissasemble the rifle, degrease/de-oil it, media blast it then coat it with your choice of topcoat.

Take it apart, degrease it, degrease it, degrease it and spray over the top of the parkerizing.

you have three choices

1. leave it alone

2. duracoat as is and have to do it again and do it right.

3. do it right

You choice. but the underfolder needs to come apart to be done correctly

Where are you located? If you get stuck putting it back together there may be local help figuring it out...
