Default Training for my daughter

Good day all,

First post here.

I'm the father of a 12 year old girl. I took her shooting for the first time last Saturday and she loved it, she did pretty darn good too. She shot a .380 and .22 pistol as well as a .22 rifle.

Anyhow, since then I have been trying to find a good place where she could get youth orientated training in the So Cal area, preferably North OC or the Long Beach area but am willing to travel depending on frequency and duration of the classes.

I have looked everywhere but can't really find anything.

Thoughts, suggestions and input appreciated.

I am a instructor for the burro canon wot. I will contact the lead instructor for you and he can send you a pm. I live on long beach its about a 50 mile drive not to bad right up the 605 to the 210. Hi there,

Maybe you can give me more background on what type of training you are looking for. As mentioned we run Women On Target classes at Burro Canyon Shooting park. They also hold them at Oak Tree Gun club in Newhall.

We handle the Girl Scouts and their pistol classes. Your daughter would be old enough for a Women On Training class. (But she would need an over 21 women to be with her.)

We also have access to private instructors, dependent on what you are looking for. (Some are good at teaching competition, some are shotgun(Trap/Skeet) specialists. Some are just darn great Pistol and rifle instructors..

Let us know what you are looking for and we can arrange it.

Dan.

Thanks Drew.!

My wife is not into shooting, yet. Would it be allowed for a father to attend with heir daughter or would that be frowned upon?

TBH, I'm not sure what type of training. She's very new to firearms so basic training to start but then maybe look at a shooting club or something where she can learn team building skills and the like. She is not very athletic, like our younger daughter is, but I think a team type of thing would be good for her.

I just want something her age for the basic training and a team building...something, for when she is ready to take the next step.

Not sure what else I could provide but ask away and I'll be happy to answer. Thanks for the replies.

The NRA runs youth training. Contact some of the local ranges and see if they have a NRA program.
My sons went through it and loved it.
I was an instructed and really enjoyed working with youngsters.
There is also NRA sponsored Women on Target.

Sorry, I didn't see the part about needing an over 21 female. Maybe that would be a good start for my wife as well...hmmm.

Golfguy, I'll look into some of the NRA stuff. Thanks for the info.

The Women On Target clinics are one of the NRA training programs. CGSSA is responsible for several of the NRA WOT clinics in CA. It's my understanding that the NRA WOT clinics held at Burro are considered to be taught by the premier training group in CA for the NRA WOT. Dan runs the NRA WOT clinics at Burro. I'm a volunteer for the NRA WOT at Burro.

Thanks for the info all. I'll forward to my wife and sister in law, she has expressed an interest and lives with us. I'm thinking that if they go first then maybe my wife can take my daughter on another day and I'll just keep exposing her at the range with me.

West End Gun Club runs a great juniors program...you may need to be NRA members. Im not sure but I think the NRA supports the program financially as well as logistically as does Turners Sporting Goods.
