I use Nord - hit a deal for 3 years, $99

Couple of minor issues: sometimes the site it connects you to has a corrupted DNS, so some minor sites may appear messed up.

Out of country connections get frequent 'can't find server' errors when trying to get to US .gov sites.

Nothing big.

I use IP Vanish. Can usually find discounts to the $5/month range. Pretty solid.

i am using PIA (Private Internet Access)

be advised.......that when using any vpn......plan on losing at least half your internet speed.

Airvpn. Buy it every black Friday for 50/year. Great with a lot of features. Forwarding ports across different servers. Tons of servers and speeds are good. PIA is great too saw someone else mentioned them.
Why do you want a vpn? The reasons you want it and how much privacy you want may make a low cost/free one not worth it. Free ones have been k own to spy on you...they gotta pay for that free service somehow.

virtual shield, numerous servers, no slow down speed, solid privacy rules, although when using hulu, netflix, you have to shut it off, otherwise great.

I've been using CactusVPN for two years now, it's pretty good and they keep expanding their service. They also allow torrenting if you use their european (liberty) package, same price as the usa one but different locations. They'll give you a free trial for a week or whatever, then it's $40 a year. To me it's been worth it because I don't want to get another pissed off dmca notice for downloading.

Also depending on what you're looking for consider where the companies you use are based out of. PIA is US based and a lot of the free ones are as well.

Nord VPN, especially if you stream (Netflix, Amazon Video, etc). It is one of the lowest latency (fastest) VPN's on the market.

I’ve been on VPN unlimited for 6 months and it’s been great so far,

https://stacksocial.com/sales/vpn-un...aid=a-0m8ddxmy

Currently at $39 for lifetime subscription on 5 devices, when I bought it there was a sale and it was $29. You can add devices any time if you need more and remove old devices when needed

I wouldn't recommend this unless you're fairly technical and comfortable in a unix command line environment, but... I run my own on a $5/month VM at Digital Ocean. Here's the tutorial I followed:

Nord VPN and PIA are your two best options as far as price and anonymity goes. Both do not save logs.

OpenVPN on an Amazon VPC with servers in London and San Jose.

Forgot to mention Amazon has a free tier through AWS for 12 months which can run a VPN. IIRC bandwidth is $0.05/GB stateside and more for international traffic. It's less than $10/month on bandwidth for both servers with lite to moderate use. You do have an "elastic IP" associated with an Amazon ISP endpoint.

I am not doing as much shady stuff as I used to, anymore and try to always use "https://".
At work, on public/guest WiFi (and at Kaiser), I SSH tunnel to an RDP session at home...

I believe the OP meant VPN for internet connection, not connecting back to your home network remotely. Opposite directions.

For doing illegal file sharing or something? If you're planning on file sharing, get a seedbox in a locale where sharing is legal and don't worry about getting caught breaking the law since, well, you won't be breaking the law.*

*IANAL, this is not legal advice.
