Awesome radio. You will enjoy it.
I've got mine mounted to a board. Tuner on top and a junction block of Power Pole connectors.
Even at home, I power it with an automotive 12V. It's always portable.

Take care,
Dave

I've been licensed around 25 years, I come from a large family of HAM enthusiasts. When my grandfather passed away some years back, I took his call sign.

Another KJ6*** here, PM for call sign.

Well, after having my ticket for over a year, I finally got around to purchasing a radio, Wouxun KG-UV6X, so far I have been impressed with the RX and Tx and the overall quality/feel of this HT.

I'm in the process of learning the programming menu and have programmed the K6IS repeater into the memory and had my first conversation. I have been encouraging the wife to get her ticket.

Welcome Cranemech,

I hear for the price, those wouxon's are a great deal. I never hear about folks how a problem with them aside from the pain in the arse programming.

I've been toying with getting one as a spare radio based on all the favorable comments I've seen about them. There is a Yahoo group that is apparently quite helpful and there is also some freeware software that makes programming them a snap.

I've been reading the posts on the Yahoo group and I have the programming cable. For now I am using the software from the Powerwerx site, I am considering using some of the other software available, I have to research a little more.

The software is basically just a matter of filling in the boxes with the correct info, for me sometimes that can be a challenge.

Someone in the local club has probably already compiled all the repeater info into a format you can either import into the software or manually type in. That would save some effort. Also, I think CHIRP (http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home) has a feature where you put in a ZIP code and it downloads all the local repeater info for you into the software.

Great rig. I've been running one for the last year. I only wish they made a dual band version.

I downloaded an app called "Repeater Book" for my Iphone, it is very handy for locating repeaters in your local area.

I figured I would pass along the info to those interested.

Wow, nice setup! My grandfather was big into HF which is what got me interested in getting my license. He would chat with his buddies around 7.980 if I remember correctly. So many hams think 2 meter is all there is! are you in NorCal?

Same here.

I rarely key up, except to check in at the local monthly ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) meetings.

I enjoy listening though. You can learn a lot, since most hams are pretty technical, some would say geeky, and enjoy talking about their setups and how things work.

I was thinking about that one, Do you like it? I mean its obviously no Yaesu or Kenwood, but how is it? Can you set it up for a large (crossband) repeater offset?

I'm back on the air after a lengthy hiatus - thanks to a non working radio. Now with a new Alinco DJ-V57 i can transmit again!

I normally hang out on 145.35 - 88.5 on Sonoma Mtn. (Sonoma County) though i rarely hear any peeps there.

Got my technician license KK6*** and working on my general. I expect to test for General on 06/08. I managed to get my Baofeng to work on 2m and 70cm. LEX(Calguns member) has been a huge help in getting the HT To talk to Wins repeaters. I am currently working on getting my ft897d configured...its a pita but I hope to have all the bands configured properly soon.

Yup, once you start there is no stoping...right now I am running yaesu ft-897d at home and baofeng ht in my car. I had a yeasu ft- 2900r for a while but decided to sell it and get ft-7900r soon because it's a dual band and I like Win system (70 cm) a lot.

Going for my general in one week.

Not using 817 but FT 897D (LDG897 tuner) with YOYO Dipole 10-40 meters with 1:1 balun with no problem. I use it as an inverted /\ with a 33' pole for portable use.

I will be testing a buddistick and a buddipole this weekend. We shall see, but my instinct is that buddipole will come on top.

Dear Lord! My first thought was that if you keyed all three radios at the same time you'd kill the engine. Or suck the battery into a black hole.
Nice installation though. That had to take up most of a weekend though.
My question is how "clean and clear" is the 6M band?

Lex - I suspect that he has just the 3 rigs pictured. One of them is most likely a dual-band 2-meter/70-cm (440 Mhz).

Like your "rolling ham shack". Is that a generator tucked behind the leftside fuel cell? With a rig like that, I'd expect you'd be involved in ARES or RACES for disaster drills.
