Scheduled my CCW certification with Joe Truesdale today. Spoke with him on the phone and he seemed like a really nice guy that took the time to answer all of the questions I had. I'll post an update after my interview.

Joe is good people. He gave me some great shooting tips at our club when I first started shooting.

Yep, this is true. The only cost to you to get the process started and to either get approved to continue or denied is the $20 application fee.

My interview took about 45 minutes. the majority of that was spent just talking about hobbies that the interviewer and i had in common. It was a very relaxed interview.

Hey guys whats the situation with mods in CCW guns? For example would a Ruger LCP with a stainless guide rod (LINK), higher weight recoil spring (LINK), Sweet Pea III aluminum upgraded trigger (LINK) and Hogue rubber wrap around grip be a problem?

It depends on your county. I was under the impression that Placer frowns upon any modifications that does not come that way from the factory. Please correct me if I am way off base.

Jet Setter is correct; Placer does not like modifications. The only thing they will allow is different sights (i.e. night sights) and a different grip.
Now understand that this isn't something they inspect upon permit issuance. However, it is one of the stipulations to the permit. So if you have to use your piece and it's modded, then prepare for the repercussions.

I recently received a notification from my trainer that stated Placer County will now accept lasers and lights on your EDC. Sound like they are changing there view on some of this stuff to bring themselves into continuity with surrounding counties. I would check with the Placer County CCW unit on any mod first though.

Yea Ill give them a call on Monday. If it doesnt sound like I get the warm and fuzzy on the mods Ill rip them out, go back to stock and sell em on eBay. Probably take a loss but its better than losing in court should it ever come to that... Bummer though as I really liked those mods.

Here is the actual message lifted from his Facebook site.

It's official.... PCSO is now allowing the addition of laser sights and flashlight accessory attachments for the weapons on a CCW permit. They also continue to allow sight changes/enhancements and grip changes. However, absolutely no modifications regarding the functionality of the weapon (trigger jobs, etc.). Thanks, PCSO!

Have my interview next week. Moved from sac county with my permit. Hoping all goes well. My good cause isn't the strongest so I am a litle nervous. I will be extremely dissapointed if I can no longer have my LTC. If anybody has any advice regarding good cause for placer please PM me.

From the PCSO site, as always with these things, plenty of weasel words to make a case one way or the other although the intent seems to be "be normal"

Weapons
The following regulations pertain to the weapons permitted for Placer County CCW permit holders.

The weapon shall be the product of a recognized manufacturer free from mechanical and other flaws, within tolerances determined by manufacturer뭩 specifications, and in good working order.
Weapons approved shall be either revolver or semi-automatic with an ammunition capacity of no less than five rounds.
Weapons must have a bullet with a specification of no less than .25 calibers, nor greater than .45 calibers. Derringer or other 밾ide-away type weapons, or single shot weapons are not permitted.
There is a maximum of three (3) weapons allowed on a CCW permit.
Any weapon listed on a CCW permit must be registered with California Department of Justice, Firearms Bureau to the holder of the permit. If you have brought the gun in from another state or are uncertain if the gun is registered to you, you must verify that the weapons are indeed registered to you with DOJ. You cannot use a weapon owned by a spouse, it must be registered to you.
We allow modification to enhance sighting such as laser sights and or night sights. This includes modifications to grips. We do not allow modifications to the weapons that would alter it from the manufacturer뭩 original setting

Actually the Placer FAQ now says:

Quote:
Can I modify or alter my weapon?

Yes, we allow modification to enhance the sighting and grips. We do not allow modifications to the weapons that would alter it from the manufacturer’s original specification.
http://www.placer.ca.gov/departments...permits/ccwfaq

So the grip is good to go. I have one on my LCP and it is on my Placer permit. A 3rd party trigger is probably a non starter. Recoil spring or guide rod is debatable, I wouldn't do it without getting the Sheriff Dept to sign off on it.

I moved from Sac County to Placer about 3 months ago. Had my CCW in Sac. My interview was Tuesday and I got the approval email on Thursday. Very impressed with Placer's turnaround. Going in for Livescan next week so hopefully not too much longer.

Link to Placer County approved Concealed Weapons Instructors.

I would also recommend oneononefirearms but there are other good ones as well.

I saw this today and was confused as previously I swore you had to have the class/cert before the interview. It must have changed since I last looked in early June or so. For others reading this yes the policy changed and by finding it here I'm certain that I didn't lose my mind.

I had my interview today and everything went smooth. I was advised that I could go ahead and get my livescan done now (concurrent with DOJ approval review). It was a pretty straighforward process. I took my training from Best Handgun Training in Lincoln and I can't recommend John enough.

He had me lined out and according to my interviewer I got the "Gold star" for preparedness for today. My interviewer said that DOJ is taking about 4 weeks.

Give them PCSO a call just in case they actually received and just have not contacted you yet. A friend of mine that went through the process said his way ready a week before he got a call to come in and sign CCW.

Called the Placer County CCW division and the message specifically stated that they didn't want to be bothered by people calling to check on their Livescan status. Still waiting, now day 45

Default Placer CCW Process.

Hello to all, I recently moved to Roseville from So Cal. I just had my interview for my CCW and thought I would share my experience.

Not knowing the ropes I first took my CCW training class and qualification. I used John Taylor, Best Hand Gun Training. His class was succinct and too the point, he made it interesting and the qualification went smooth.

I made my appointment for the interview in September ans was given a date in January 2015. John Taylor suggested checking the Sheriff website daily for cancellation, I did and got my interview October 30. Placer only interviews on Tuesday and Thursday. It will cost you $20.00 for the interview fee.

I met with Mike.... who was cordial and low key. The most important thing to remember is to come prepared with your application completely filled out..do not sign it..you will sign it during the interview. Come prepared with ALL the documentation necessary to support your application, the Sheriff website tells you what documents to bring. Any missing documents holds up your application process until you supply the document.

He had already run my DMV history, criminal check and my guns through DOJ.

As to the good cause statement, do it on a separate piece of paper, like a letter addressed to the Sheriff....don't put a statement in your application,, leave it blank, or just put the words "See Attached". I am a business owner and have odd hours and travel, so my situation and need may be different from yours. Self defense is not a good reason with out other reasons.

At the interview the interviewer will first go over your application, section by section, asking questions along the way. He will have you sign the relevant portions and he goes through.

Once the application is covered the interviewer will begin your interview. Here be prepared to go over previous addresses going back 10-15 years; military history; driving record; and contacts with the police not only any arrests but any contact with police like being a victim of a crime, calling the police on someone else, having the police called to your home, domestic troubles; he asked me when the last time I went over 100 miles per hour on the street, or when I last used the car pool lane; he asked if I ever had to get out of my car to confront another driver or pedestrian.

He went over medications legal and illegal, whether I have ever taken anti-depressive medications or have been treating with a psychiatrist or psychologist; whether any of my prescription medication warned against operating machinery,

He asked if I ever applied for a CCW anywhere else. That what I can remember of the questions. It took about 20 minutes The next step is for them to give the OK for the Live Scan. Depending on the interview they may due their internal check or have to wait for additional documents before they issue the OK for the live scan.

I received my OK for live scan right away. Placer sheriff does not do them. I had mine done at the Roseville PD, its a walk-in deal and it will cost you $180.00. Just make sure the operator says the scans were good and clear.
Live Scan means your prints are scanned and transmitted to DOJ right then.

You fax a form back to Placer Sheriff;s that the scan was done so they know to expect the results. When the prints come back, if OK, they will call you in to pay the CCW fee ($175.00) and sign the permit.

Hope that helps some of you with the process.

Called the Placer county CCW division today. Got a real person on the first ring and asked if there was any news on my Livescan since its been 51 days. The lady was very nice, went through my folder and told me that Livescan came back on the 30th of October and everything was good to go. She said that I should be getting an email soon to pick up my permit.

Intervention denied in Peruta v. Gore.

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1003871

I'm looking forward to seeing "good cause" removed from Placer County's Criteria for consideration of issuance.

Now to challenge the subjective good moral character clause.

I'm looking forward to seeing "good cause" removed from Placer County's Criteria for consideration of issuance.

Now to challenge the subjective good moral character clause.
I would also love to see the rule removed where we cannot carry into a business that posts that firearms are not allowed. But this is still great news! Baby steps!!

Apparently Placer does not see the writing on the wall. They still have a good cause requirement in there criteria for consideration of issuance.

My last friend who got a Placer CCW said the officer doing the interview asked him for good cause and then gave him suggestions for a few more. So while it may be in writing the point is sort of mute.

Because Peruta has not been finalized yet. Placer is not the only county doing this, most others are as well.
