Default Ruger AR556 - front QD mount too small?

I finally picked up a couple of QD sling mounts to put on my Ruger AR556. One fits perfect in the QD socket in the Hera stock, but the QD mount on the gas block is just too small. Are QD mounts supposed to be standard? Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or missed a detail somewhere.

Anyone here make use of the front QD socket on your Ruger?

Are we sure it's the OD of the steel qd plug or the rough as a cob finish on the mount?

If it's the latter you need to be creative with a wooden dowel and emery cloth or a.....
Dremel!!!

A few seconds with a Dremel sandpaper drum fixed it. It initially felt like a lot of material needed to be removed but everything worked fine after I quickly cleaned up the hole.
