Default force win 10 to update ?

i have my computers off for long periods of time. when i check for updates and find several are pending........how can i makes them install immediately while i have the computer on ? win 10 has a "active hours" setting that will prevent the installation while i am in that time frame. i there a way to prompt the download and installation on demand ?

Generally, the active hours only refer to when the machine restarts (it won't during active hours unless you click restart now. Since you have not updated your machine in a while, the updates will probably install in several stages and you will have to (or the machine will in inactive hours) restart in order to continue with the updates.

What he said. Not all updates will install at once, but will install in stages, as per my post earlier, and need to be re-started in between.

This may be a possible issue, if you use System Restore:

My ASUS laptop would not update. The problem seemed to be that it would go into sleep mode and not finish any updates.

The solution was to turn off all sleep modes and anything that would shut down the laptop.

After staying on all night it completed all updates and had updated to the most recent version of Windows 10.

it seems to me , the only real option is to leave it on for the entire weekend, and then power down monday morning. seeing as this this computer is used only for banking, i hate to leave it on24/7 not knowing what all win 10 garbage is in the backround that will run when un-attended at night.

This is really no different than when a new computer needs to update when first connected.

It takes several cycles of downloading, updating and rebooting before all the updates are installed.

The ASUS never would complete even the first update. Always found it sleeping with no new updates installed.

Apparently the newest 10 version takes some time to download.

Maybe you should start it early in the morning and monitor progress and possibly the need to hit a key to prompt a reboot.

Go to settings and turn off sleep mode and then start the update process.

Frequent restarts like once a week and hard shut downs at least once a week should do it. For desk tops un pluging once a month seems to have some effect as well.

The 1809 update has issues

It seems to be a big update so it will take a while to install.
