do you have to be a resident of Orange county
do you have to be a resident of Orange county to apply and receive a ccw from O.C. and can you carry in a city Like Torrance where the Police chief is totally against the 2nd amendment and the right to carry.

Applicants can apply to either their police chief or sheriff. Sheriffs however are required to accept all applications in their county. Once issued the license is valid in all of CA.

You do have to be a full time resident. Otherwise we'd all already have CCWs from places like San Bernardino County. But once you have it, it allows carry anywhere in California.

Kind of weird isn't it?
Either OC wants to issue, it's a money grab or they know it's not going to be challenged? Does that sound about right or am I missing something?

I used to live to in AZ, and carrying is no big deal. Whether its open carry, or concealed carry. Makes criminals think twice. In California there is still the stigma that guns are bad, no matter what. Slowly but surely this will be adapted into the norm of our society.
It will be also adapted to the selection process of thinking for criminals that every store clerk, soccer mom, grandma/grandpa, person leaving the gym, person using and atm, etc...could be armed now. It [CCW] will be an effective tool of deterrence.

About 30 mins ago I downloaded the CCW application from the OC Sherrifs website. Tomorrow I hope to fill it out and gather all the relevant info. I will turn it in by next week. From my sources I think its possible I could get one. Wont know till I try but this is the closest I will have got to obtaining one and I am sure as heck going to try!

No, passport size photos. Go to Costco or Kinko's and tell them you need passport photos. They take them for you and hand them over. I think WalMart also does it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 2

For Sacramento it was $200 for the class, $2000+ for three sets of handgun, holster, speedloader/magazines, HP Defensive ammo, $150 or so for the initial Sheriff fee. Also you have practice and some IDPA matches. The the renewal is another $200 class plus sheriff fees then $700 or so to sell one handgun that you find doesn't work and purchase another complete kit. Sure you can get by for less but some people want to carry all they can.

Did she actually yank permits or deny renewals?

That's the maximum with OC. You can initially list one or two if you like and add or swap them out later.

CVS, Walgreens, Costco, your local AAA, UPS store, etc. etc. they all do passport photos and it comes with several sets for less than $10 and will be done in less than an hour.

I just posted this in another thread just before I saw this one for OC, so sorry for that....For OC residents does this mean we have a very good chance at our CCW after what our sheriff has said recently ? I would like to apply ,but its a$200.00 gamble that would really hurt at this moment if denied. All though it seams to be plenty of time before getting an interview, and handing over the check. Also, I 'am a victim of a violent crime back in 1996,i know that's many years ago ,so I'm not sure if that holds any value any more for a CCW .
Thank you.

FYI - OCSD website states to fill out sections 1-5 only and leave 6-8 for your inteview. Section 6-8 even say they are "Interviewers Notes" despite being alot of basic info that wouldn't require such notations.
Melissa Sota at OCSD CCW Unit sent me an email stating to fill out section 7 as well but not to sign or date any section that has a signature required. So, fill out everything but wait to sign and date at your appointment. Sounds like they have a bit of refining to do. Shouldnt this thread get merged with the thread in LTC?

I do not believe there is a requirement to be a full time resident. The law says that you must be a resident of the county (or city). I presume that you must spend a substantial portion of the year as a resident of the county (or city).

I filled in Section 7 so lets see what happens. I'll even take a blank page to my interview just in case lol

Just a quick note...
Follow the instructions on page 1 verbatim. Do not sign pages 3, 8, and 11. That happens at the Sheriff/sub station...also, everything non applicable needs a N/A thru the entire block. I got my app, all excited and started filling it out, signed everything...silly me. I need to read the instructions more |

I cannot believe that there are more than perhaps 200 people who having read the article in the OC Register picked up the phone or emailed for an appointment yesterday. I could be wrong but it appears as if the OCSD is purposely delaying appointments. If they accepted only 2 per day starting yesterday, that would mean about 200 people are ahead of me. 2 apps per day though!

I don't think there's any reason to wait on scheduling an appointment. If Peruta falls, you can cancel, or supplement your GC. |

I thought I read you can apply at your local city police, or does it have to be OCSD?
I'm guessing the local PD doesn't have the resources to process apps?

The joke is on us. Both OCSD CCW appointment phone numbers are going straight to voicemail that is full this morning. They do forward to another voicemail box that is also full. I called for an hour and finally got through.
It's 2-21-14 and my appointment date to turn in my paperwork is 6-4-14. 3+ months to just turn in my app to request to exercise my 2nd amendment rights is absurd. |

Wow I emailed yesterday and was given July 8th? What shenanigans are they trying to pull down there? I'll concede that perhaps they are overwhelmed but it doesn't seem logical that they would be jumping around giving different appointment dates.
