Hopefully the inconsiderate people won't thrash it between this Saturday and next Saturday. Sounds like Supervisor Wolfe should definitely receive the press release.

last clean up, while we were still cleaning, people were bringing tvs and junk to shoot at. So it would not be a shock if it had crap out there a week later.
well its foggy over here in lompoc, still had a light mist, looks like it is clearing out though. not sure what time i will make it there, have to do some work first. |

Well, it looks like I'm working today and cannot attend. I'll be with you in spirit and when I do go up to shoot I will pack out what I pack in plus a little more that was left by those less thoughtful.

Is there supposed to be a sign saying road closed on one of the roads turning into a fork?

Just got home and have to say....what a wonderful day.... I love it when a plan comes together and 'KUDOS' to those of you that organized this event! To all the participants, and I am not going to try and name them but I hope somebody can produce a complete list and I know they will.....'THANKS!’ (Those young folks from ROTC were awesome....) Lots of fun cleaning up at the Glass Factory. Absolutely beautiful morning up on the ridgeline behind Santa Barbara.
And here is some range porn that is now gone...see the clean photo as the "after". Thanks to the crew from Calguns for all the organizational help as well as the great prizes! |

Hey guys, Am I the only one feeling sore? I'm gonna be in pain for the next couple of days. I got tired of trying to rake the trash out of the tall grass so I bent over and picked it all up by hand.....
Here's the link to the FB page that got us many of our volunteers: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-G...63147933741468

Good work today everyone. Here are a couple panoramic pics I cut to 25% of original size to fit on the forum, but the original sized photo really shows how nasty it was.

Calguns/CGSSA Cleanup of The Glass Factory a Resounding Success!
Hi everyone: I met so many amazing people today who truly gave their all to make our cleanup of the Glass Factory such an achievement. Space and lack of memory precludes me from thanking everyone who came out but please know that if you were there with us today, you made a huge difference in how this place looks and how we as firearms enthusiasts will be perceived by the community. Let me share some numbers with you... We had over 90 volunteers show up and work with us, most of them for the entire day. At best estimate, after crunching some numbers, we filled four 40 yard dumpsters and our Marborg driver told us that all of the loads were very heavy so that means we cleaned up between 32,000 and 40,000 pounds of trash a debris. Between 16 and 20 tons! We had planned on one tractor (thank you Pato and Gtturborex and whoever else made that happen) and we ended up with two. We had planned on mostly Calgunners helping out, we ended up with more Calgunners than signed up in this thread, groups from the Surfrider Foundation, Painted Cave, UCSB ROTC, neighborhood volunteers, Firefighter groups and many others, it was a complete inspiration to see the way all of our volunteers came together and worked so hard. Now for some pictures and comments A 40 yard dumpster is mighty big when its empty... We had some young and kind of shy volunteers This is the "before". It was a mess. The troops head out to battle... So many people brought out cans, tools, carts, trailers and other stuff to make the work go faster. It was great! The lower range was more of a mess than the main range. It has looked this way for years Thank you MarBorg for supplying our dumpsters, our super cool and patient driver - this could not have happened without your help Perhaps in a normal cleanup, you could make it happen with just backs, shovels and wheelbarrows but today, we combined people with the heavy equipment and it got the job done Everyone out there really put heart and soul into this, photos cannot convey the scale and scope of what we accomplished out there Having a backhoe as well as front loaders was a good move Continued in next post. Trash in mid air
Then the fog rolled in Twenty tons down, twenty to go... Unlike some CG events, we had a huge percentage of people under 25 at this one, talk about great energy! The most amazing thing is, as coordinators, we just concentrated on bringing the whole event together, the volunteers just seemed to know what do, we didn't have to do any "direction", everyone just saw what needed to be done and did it. Our Surfrider volunteers were amazing, they worked so hard. Special thanks to Cal Luke for bringing this! We had the pros out there with us as well, the Firefighters. Great job guys and thank you so much for helping us. You could sometimes really tell that this range is in Santa Barbara We REALLY got it clean out there. People who have been shooting there for decades remarked that this is the cleanest they have seen it since the 70s. Continued in next post. |

Great job everybody! This is definitely the best I have seen that place. Thank you all for all the hard work. It was worth it! Very special thanks to Marborg, Santa Barbara Stone, and CGSSA. All you ROTC people did a fabulous job out there and we hope you will join us again. Also the painted cave fire crew and the use of their tractor.
All you volunteers are the reason we are going to be able to keep this place open. We need to do something special for the Marborg guys. |

Thanks everyone for the awesome job today. The range looks spectacular!
We definitely need to do something special for MARBORG. Even if we all just send a thank you note I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated. |

The Firefighters fill yet ANOTHER bucket.
Working hard to make this place look like the beautiful place that it is. More Surfrider help Lots of stuff to rake into piles out there Ranger Eric signs in two more volunteers. BTW, the Forest Service has been a supportive and creative partner for this project and we are looking forward to working closely with them to improve the Glass Factory and keep it clean. We cooked up about 300 hot dogs for lunch, CG provided snacks, there were chips, breakfast stuff, waters, it was great. Thank you Gtturborex and brother of Gtturborex and family. Food was great and everyone had the energy to keep going and finish it. Starting to come together here Can you believe that people leave this stuff out here in this beautiful area? There are going to be some sore muscles this weekend and we thank you for it! More and more tons of garbage Continued in next post Last edited by Capybara; 01-26-2013 at 10:21 PM.. |

Even though we all came home with muddy boots, the rain yesterday and the day before was a huge plus. No dust, no particulate in the air, no dust masks needed.
So much teamwork out there today, great work! Not only did we clean the range itself, we picked up all of the trash and junk hiding in the brush all over the range This steel tank has proven a popular target, it does ping when you hit it! It was nice that we are OUT of rattlesnake season This is what was so great about today, volunteers of all ages, working together More great teamwork Glove takes a break I think I counted 14 wheelbarrows out with today, thank goodness, they are a huge help. If you ever buy one, I highly recommend the dual front wheels and replace them with the solid rubber wheels. My wheelbarrow did hard time today. Continued in next post |

Doing the steep parts of the main hill by hand
Pretty challenging to wheel 200 or 300lbs of junk down a steep hill Trash goes into the pile... Pile goes into dumpster Getting ready to wrap it up Ahh, yes, the table of shooting goodness, the Cleanup drawing prizes But before we get to the drawing, look what we did to this place! It is now beautiful, as it should be. Hopefully the inconsiderate people will not junk it up again too soon. RedMonkey and Gtturborex doing the drawing. Special thanks to can'thavenuthingood (Vick from www.gunsr4.us) for bringing us Calguns hats, shirts, pins, patches, mens and womens t-shirts for the drawing! You made the drawing just that much better Vick. That Calguns hat looks pretty spiffy on you Congratulations to dugolupski who won the 1944 Mosin Nagant M44 rifle! Enjoy it Doug. It does pay to come out and help us at cleanups. In closing, we had a very successful cleanup, the place looks great. I will be writing and sending out press releases on Monday to the SB Independent, County Supervisor's office, Edhat, and everyone else who we would like to know how our cleanup went and how we are improving our community. Thank you also to Gttturborex (Mike) and (Ed) RedMonkey for helping coordinate this event with me, we made a great team guys and we learned a lot. Thank Socalmountainman for being such a great help today with advice and pointers and for bringing out our ROTC crew. The Calguns/CGSSA team very much appreciate all of your support and hard work and for coming out and helping us make this happen. We did it. We are aiming for the next Glass Factory Cleanup day in the Spring, probably April. Last edited by Capybara; 01-26-2013 at 8:00 PM.. |

Definitely hurting today, but so worth it. Quite amazing to see the transformation from looking like a dump to normal. Many thanks to the sponsors and organizers. I think we will make a positive impact on the non-shooting community, and I was glad to be a part of that.
I was lucky enough to win ammo for my Mauser, much appreciated! |
