Greetings and salutations! This will be my first post here at calguns. I have been scouring the forums for some time now, after being introduced to the awesomeness of guns a few months ago. I have to say, this is a great forum - lots of information and diversity. It's relieving to see how much people's opinions differ when it comes to guns of preference. I think it goes to show that there's something out there for anyone and everyone.

Cheers.

My first post also. Glad to be here, the Forum, not the state. I got to handle a 1911 for the first time as an 18-year-old in 1974. I decided within minutes that someday I’d own one. Forty-three years later I bought one, a Springfield 1911 A1 Mil-Spec. I’ve put other hobbies ahead of shooting plus all the other things that come with raising a family. A biggie was also not being able shoot anywhere in Socal but at a range. Then last month my beautiful wife tells me she’s buying me a 1911 (she had heard my story a couple of times) for Father’s Day and for me to start shopping for it. That lead to me buying the SA Mil-Spec and also warming up to the idea of shooting at a public range. So I bought my 1911 at the local gun show on 23 April and still don’t have it 23 days later. But I do have a Letter of Delay from the DOJ. The 30 days runs out on the 27th. At that time the CA DOJ leaves it up to the Pawn Shop owner to decide if I should be allowed to take possession of my pistol. I have no record but my job requires a background check/update on me every 5 years, the latest was early this year. Searching the internet for information lead me to this forum where I’ve read that my background check is probably the reason for my delay. I talk to my state senator (Wilk) face to face, and a representative of my state congressman (Lackey), both Republicans. I emailed them both the letter and my story too. All that’s left to do is wait for the 27th of May to come so I can go pick my Mil-Spec up.
Until then I’ll just continue to listen and learn from you guys.
God Bless American and my wife.
augie

Hello Calguns! New to the forum, first post. In my late thirties, loved guns since I was a little kid, but didn't shoot one for the first time until a few years ago, and started shooting regularly this year. Growing up I always wanted a Beretta 92fs (shoved down our throats by hollywood), but found I shoot Glocks much better. Looking forward to learning from the community...

Welcome, Augie! Sorry to hear about the delay and hassle, but you're almost there. If you don't have your hearing protection and cleaning gear, range bag, a stockpile of ammo, etc., then fill up the rest of your wait time acquiring what you still need to hit the range on the 27th.

Welcome DS.
I was sure I was going to buy a 92FS as my first handgun a few years back until I put it in my hands and it just did not feel right.
Got a BHP instead.

Default Hi Everybody

Hi I was a lurker for a while and this is where I first learned about off roster handguns. I purchased my first handgun earlier this week(Glock 19) and cant wait to go pick it up. I'm in my early 30's and look to learn more about firearms and laws as well as training to become more proficient. I really don't think I will remain in CA for too many more years as Texas is looking like a real attractive option with low house prices and wonderful gun laws. Glad to be here!!!

Default Welcome to Calguns!

Hi all, Mag+1 here.

I'm fairly new to this forum, some of you may know me from the n00b rack-rack-rack thread, but that's neither here-nor-there. I figured I'd start off on the right foot this time and tell about my background as it pertains to guns.

I am originally from the East coast and was shooting bb/pellet guns from since I was maybe 10 years old or so. In my early teens, my buddies and I would go out in the wooded areas and shoot long guns from 22 rifles, 410-, 20-, 16-, and 12-gauge shotguns from birdshot to buckshot. The only pistols I shot back then were 22's.

From the time I graduated high-school until I was well into my career (post-college degree), I hadn't touched a gun. After years of working and raising a family (and subsequently moving to California), I inherited my father's military-issue Colt 1911 .45 semi-automatic pistol. Not really a pistol shooter, I went to many ranges and learned how to handle, shoot, and clean this firearm. It's been a great hobby, but wanted to take it a step further and get my CCW, especially for the expensive equipment I haul around for my other hobbies/side-jobs. I've also been an NRA member for a while.

For EDC, I bought a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm. The 1911 is my bedside firearm, but it is also on my CCW. I take them both to the range regularly. A couple of friends own AK rifles, so I also shoot with them on occasion.

I obtained my CCW licrnse and started carrying.

Trivia: I was in the first group (only two of us) to get get the new license format. In fact, I was licensee #2!

Why did I join this forum?

... To learn more, to read about experiences of others, to ask questions, to help answer others' questions, and basically, to be entertained! (so far, it has not been boring—that's for sure!)

So, that's it. That's me.

Oh—and by the way—I only rack my slide once to clear it (unless it is not fully cleared). But that's just me. ;-) (inside joke)

As you were gentlemen (and ladies)...

My name is Dan, I'm a gunoholic.. this is my first step, I mean post. I've been a long time lurker. I started shooting when I was 10 with my uncle in Tennessee nearly a half century ago. (that looks scary seeing it in print!) I can still remember when Kalifornia was a more or less free state, the good old days.

Welcome.

Yes Cali was a lot better at one time. That is what happens though when a state or nation does not control its borders. No doubt there is a clear correlation. Its a shame that is all it takes, but things are what they are.

Hello brothers and sisters in arms. I'm new here. Started shooting with my dad when I was in elementary school with his older S&W 910 in 9mm, kept shooting that until high school when he traded it to his friend for new and installed kitchen cabinets. It wasn't until a few months ago that I bought my first very own and it is a sig SP2022 in 9mm. Really looking forward to sharpen some iron here and learn from all you folks. Good day from City of Industry
