Yes I wasn’t able to go yesterday. Then I read the receipt for when I made the final payment. It said there’s going to to be another email with instructions for pick up. I’m just going to go on Tuesday morning. Hopefully it’s ready. If not I’ll go back Thursday lol.

My timeline, thus far:

Initial application: Dec 16th

Initial interview: Feb 4th (Originally Apr 17, found earlier opening)

Notice to proceed to livescan: Feb 14th

Livescan done: Feb 15th

Training competed: Mar 17th

Certificates and current proof of residency submitted: Mar 17th

No further movement. I'm wondering if by "first come first served" basis, they are going off of original application date, verses final documents being submitted...

Take along the first text, email which said it’s ready, and email showing paid.

If needed, Use the first one, first.

You will get an email when it is ready to be picked up. If they are also doing things like a couple of years ago, you might even get an automated phone call informing you of it.

Hey thanks. Wife said there was an automated call saying something about ccw on the house phone but didn’t bother to tell me and deleted it. That’s why I love her so much! She’s very communicative and detailed oriented! 🤣

Just to wrap up my timeline, I got my approval email, text and phone call yesterday, April 9th at a little after noon. Made payment immediately.

Got email to pick up about 3 hours later. Made it there just before 4:00pm and picked it up.

Question... My 20 year old son is now thinking about wanting to get his CCW. He lives in Sacramento County also. No background issues, not even a traffic ticket.

I know he can't purchase a handgun until he's 21, but he can possess one if one is gifted to him by me.

Does anyone know if Sheriff Jones has a minimum age requirement for CCW's? I mean, worse case it's only $25 to apply and find out, but curious if anyone knows first hand.

If we can get the price down to $20, will you do it?

Lol. Not really an issue with the cost, I just don't want him to apply when there's no chance, get denied, and then have to answer "yes" to the question of have you ever applied and been denied on the application, either here in Sacramento or perhaps another jurisdiction down the road.

Dude....the initial app is $20, not $25.

If he's turned down, future apps say he was turned down for being under 21....if he lives long enough, he can fix that.

I've not seen anything from Sac Sheriff on age requirement.

BTW...depending on B-day and process time, he might make the "21" cut by the date of issuance.

Sorry. It's been so long since I initially applied, I forgot! Lol. Old age I guess.

Thanks!

He really should have three: one primary; one secondary; one backup, if primary is in the shop.

This could cost you WAY more than $20.

(Your son can thank me later.).

Recent renewal timeline:

Completed application/uploaded everything on Day 0. Counting business days only, I received the email at 0820 on Day 4 stating that the new license was ready to pick up. Went in a couple hours later and picked it up. That’s about half the time it took for my 2017 renewal.

I've had a Sac County CCW for years now, but was asked recently if a .22 was allowed for CCW. Don't have a clue, hopefully someone here knows for sure.

Interesting. So, it looks like .22lr IS allowed. Now that I think about it, in one of my CCW classes there was a woman who had a Beretta .22lr.

Data painstakingly collected over the last 8 years indicate that approximately 33% of concealed carriers who post on Cal Guns know how to check their IA’s website.

I just read on a website that a study showed 94% of statistics on the internet are wrong.

I have two questions:

I am selling a gun on my permit. When I submit the modification to the county, can I add another gun to replace the one I sold?

My other question is about renewal - i know you're supposed to submit 45 days before the expiration date, but can you do it sooner? My expires in October and I want to renew it in June when I have the free time to take the class.

Per their website - modifications are done ONLY at renewal.

For renewal, the class must be taken with 6 months of the time you submit your paperwork. You should be able to take your class in June, then submit it October.

Filed a renewal last Tuesday.

Approved by Thursday.

Picked up Yesterday.

The system has gotten a lot better from the wait to get my first interview ~6 years ago.

Perhaps you would prefer the L.A. or S.F. County licenses? I understand they take up no room in the wallet.

We're not supposed to carry in a business that's main purpose is the consumption of alcohol. I get that. No bars.

What I'm curious about is what's the delineation between a bar and a bar that serves food, etc. Places like Applebee's that has a bar component, but obviously sells more food in their restaurant portion than they sell alcohol... But what about smaller "sports bar and grills"? We certainly can't be expected to know monetarily how much each portion of the establishment generates, so are we suppose to go by apparent square footage for each designated area?

If a sports bar and grill has pool tables, dart boards and tables for serving food, and a relatively small floor space dedicated to a bar, even though there's more people at the bar are we legal to carry?

You are over thinking it or upping your post count.

Why are you even carrying? If its because you want to protect your family then that is your guidance.

My CCW instructor's general rule of thumb is that if you need to be carded to get in, it's a bar. Otherwise it's a restaurant that happens to serve food. FWIW - not formal legal advice...

I saw that “modifications at renewal” note on the website but emailed them and asked about modifications anyway as I hated one gun I’d listed. They said the rule was a bandwidth thing for them and told me to apply and be patient. I did, and my modification took only 2 weeks... thanks Sac Sheriff!

YMMV, but might be worth a try...

I applied for a permit modification on 4/17/19,today 7/22/19 got the email from Sac Sheriff saying that due to "workload constraints gun modifications are currently not being processed ".Only at time of renewal and a refund for fees has been requested .
So,no mods !
