Re: Laser engraving
Something to be aware of, for those who haven't engraved their FCU.

I just got back from Bulleye Bishop. They do a good job and are pretty quick. When I came by 2-3 weeks ago to do the engraving, I wasn't told that Evan was out of the shop that day. Only let Evan or Aaron do the work. I left my FCU there for the engraving and someone else did the work and the positioning is kind of funky.

The serial number is so far to the right that the last digit is almost out of the window - the entire s/n is visible but it's close to the edge. My name and city was engraved in an area that, when the holes are drilled (soon to be drilled), the holes would obliterate the markings. When I went to pick up the FCU, Aaron noticed the problem and re-engraved the marking.

What should have happened: Seat the FCU into the grip module. Take a fine point Sharpie and trace the s/n window. Now you know the approximate area to engrave.

I'm a little annoyed at the employee's lack of training but it's a homebuild, not a work of art, and you'll never see the FCU unless you're cleaning it. We'll see what happens during the Etiquette Symposium.

Hi Everyone, in case there are any lurkers on the thread who wanted in on the group buy but weren't able to (or if you find yourself wanting to buy a 2nd kit) I have decided to sell my kit for 9mm Compact for the same amount that I bought it for as I need the cash. I've posted in the Marketplace (https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/....php?t=1457035) but am posting here as well with nubrun's permission. I'm currently #6 out of 14 in the Bay Area queue and nubrun has agreed to allow my buyer to take my place in the queue if he/she wishes. I have also communicated with Flanders who is organizing the Bay Area Symposium and he has agreed to allow my buyer to attend the Symposium if he/she wishes. Thanks and good luck to all of you with your builds!

Thanks for the tip about the deburring tool. I could NOT get my pins to set until I took a deburrer to the inside edge of all the holes.

Massive thanks to you, Nick for "consulting" on building out our FCUs. I stupidly left without sending any cash your way for drill bits, expertise, etc. I'll be sure to rectify this soon.

I wanted to update this late because I finally just completed it (thankfully I am on vacation). Fully assembled, striker goes click every time, everything seems to be functioning well and I am going to take it out this Saturday for real testing.

I want to add for others that the positioning of the FCU in the grip module is important to get things to function normally. I initially seated the FCU as far back as I could while having the takedown lever holes match up. Everything was super tight and the trigger was sticking/not resetting even with grease and lube. It took a brass hammer just to pivot the takedown lever all the way down. It was so tight, the slide would not come off unless I completed rotated the takedown lever all the way around. The slide stop was engaging every time I pulled back on the slide even with no mag inside.
I moved it forward by a few millimeters and it functioned perfectly. Basically, do not make the back completely flush with the grip module (at least with the medium compact module). Make sure the slide stop levers are able to move freely and then stop pushing the FCU back.
I also watched Alma Cole's Dissassembly/Reassembly "post upgrade" video at least a dozen times.

Good luck fellow builders!

Use Jcarps solution above where he bends the front of the of the slide lock up a bit to allow the slide lock to go higher in the rear. That should solve the problem. It doesn't take much.

Color the top of the insert with sharpie and see where its rubbing. Let's do a Magnum range day next week and see how those actually run.

And the ejector. You want to see where it’s rubbing to figure out why it’s hard to remove.

Are those regular full size magazines with baseplates? I’m curious of your magazines setup. I’m having problems getting factory X5 mags but I do have full size mags.

I have the magwell and full sized magazines too. I did an experiment to shave the basepad down to make it work and long story short it does but you have to grind on it a lot with a sander or dremel.

I took off a lot of material and have maybe 1/8" of material between laterally between the actual metal portion of the magazine and the base on either side. I had to entirely remove the wings on the top and that got shaved down to approximately 1/8" as well between that same metal part and the base in the vertical direction toward the magwell. Making it fit in the magwell if you have a rounded magazine (like I did) required you to square it off with a dremel. All in all in about 5 minutes working carefully I now have a shaved down factory full size mag that works in the magwell, drops free, and is generally nice to work with.

It's a DIY fix but there's a solution on the way. When Sig releases the SQUARE bottom for the mags separately (the only have rounded basepad available to purchase right now) or if you have a square bottomed magazine already its supposedly compatible in the regular full sized mag with the magwell.

question for you...
did everything work except the slide catch was a little too high to where it wouldnt work unless you bent it?

My first one turned out like that.
I think it was because of the top part of the JIG not being in a vice when i drilled the holes.

My 2nd one worked out perfect except its a little hard the get the sldie off the rear frame rails.

I think the holes are to low, I think it was the jig holes are like 1mm off or out of spec maybe

Everything else worked after fitting for the most part.

So for those who have competed the build successfully... maybe someone can help me out or even is local or I’d be willing to meet somewhere in southern Cali for some tips. I had gone to the IE build but only had time to work on the insert.

But upon sliding the slide onto the frame with the insert installed, the safety lever stays up and blocks the slide from going all the way back. I have to put some force to get it to slide rather than a smooth slide on.

Then, when I cock the slide, the trigger is dead on the first pull. But the first pull while it was initially dead causes the second pull to make the striker go off. It’s as if I need to pull a dead trigger once every time to make the 2nd pull live... maybe I installed something wrong? Will try and go back and re do it but I did follow the video slowly to make sure.

Anyone else have an issue like this or know what it sounds like it could be?

Thanks

Where you located, Im in Yorba Linda. Could try to help you out. Make sure, as stated above, that after you put the slide on you bring it back and lock it back. This should allow the slide safety to release. Then release the slide and you are in business.

Mine was "tight" all around at first. I took it apart a couple times and also cycled everything numerous times. It loosens up after that.

I also want to remove the internals and polish things up a little better.

Thanks
You mean disconnector? Have you been to Nubruns build website? At the very end, it tells you to make some room for the disconnector to drop. You have to remove enough metal for it to drop all the way down.

Everything else worked after fitting for the most part.

I attended the saturday symposium in the IE.
I have noticed that the that after taking mine a part a couple times, pieces dont always drop into place correctly. Mine works good right now (have not test fired) but I want to polish some more.
