Default Too Much Oil?

Okay, I just had a stupid accident when cleaning my AR. Somehow, after meticulously cleaning the damn thing, my oil container fell into the upper.
It only spilled about 3 or 4 mL. Do I need to mop it all up, or can I just burn it off at the range?

Hmmm...You had better clean it all off. You dont really want ANY oil of ANY kind on your AR. They were designed to be run dry.

It's probably best to wipe off the excess since it will attract more carbon.

You might have some burning oil shoot out on your first couple shots so be careful. It doesn't typically go that far... no; not kidding.

I would wipe it off for the simple fact of not wanting to get sprayed in the face with it during the first few rounds.

I vote for this. If you have neighbors that you don't like, it's a guarantee that they will get the hint and never efff with you again.

My boss used to oil the unholy hell out of his guns. Like ridiculous! You'd have to wipe your hands after handling one.

Take a rag to it and be done. I wouldn't worry

I've seen AR's pulled out of water and shot, a little oil won't hurt.

No amount of any oil will "hurt" an AR. Grease will in some cases cause it to jam. Over oiling for the casual shooter is more of a nuisance than anything else.

Soaked a freshly built AR down with CLP at the range, splattered myself pretty good!

Are you new to guns ? I don't really understand the question . If your new to guns or the platform . No problem buddy , just wipe the excess off . You can have to much oil so take a rag and soak it up . If its dripping wet or standing oil . . When you put the gun away and place the rifle butt stock down like most of us . All that oil is going to run down into the buffer tube and out of the receiver between the two receivers where the buffer tube is . Now you will have standing oil in your buffer tube as well as oil all over the outside of the firearm around the stock area .

If you have any experience with firearms . WTH man was this really worth a thread .

Yep this.

Do not forget to enhance the rifle waving experience by blasting this song during rifle waving and yelling:

**I am not liable or responsible for any harm or arrests that may befall you while doing so.**

Again, this is more of a nuisance. Over oiling will not cause any harm. For oil to pool in the reciever extension one would literally have to empty a bottle of oil into the gun. A small amount of oil in the tube will not harm, break, render useless any part of the AR platform.
Now, it may run out of the rifle spilling onto the expensive interior of ones safe but again this is not damaging the rifle.

Give it a quick wipe and go let nature do the rest while you're shooting it.
Lends a whole new meaning to "smoke 'em if you got 'em".
Nothing bad will happen to you or your rifle.
Enjoy

Its a new .300 blackout build. Depending on the weather, I may have cycling issues.

Trying to figure out what is causing FTE. I think I just bought a bad lot of 500 reloads. Want to make sure its not my fault before I make a stink about it.

Also a somewhat new AR owner

Is the bolt locking back on final round ??

Did you install the gas block ?

Do you have the ability to test the velocity ?

I went to the range today. Functions 100% right with different ammo. Looks like the batch of 500 commercial reloads are a bit on the low side in terms of charge. Unfortunately I can't measure velocity, but I'll be calling the company tomorrow.
