As far as I'm concerned, they don't exist. Magnetic ammo sparks when it hits rocks (or steel) and is deemed a fire hazard, so any range that wants to stay in business bans it for that reason.

What would it take to make a hillside/backstop at ranges like "A Place to Shoot" be able to take magnetic ammo without risk of fire?

If something like that was possible, I'm sure they would be able to raise donations from the shooters who use the range.

Use search thread this has been beaten to death. West end in palmdale is only one I am aware of. It would take an act of god to keep sparks from occuring when ferrous metals strike rocks. Buy proper ammo for outdoor range use in so cal and give the rest to the cartels to shoot each other with.

basically remove every rock or pebble from the hillside and completely remove any vegetation that could burn is what needs to be done. Or, they could install an irrigation system that could make sure that all the vegetation is so green that it wouldn't burn. but that irrigation system would need to protected against gunfire.

I just came back from Lytle Creek today. Steel core allowed. They even have labeled buckets under the tables as "Steel" or Brass" for your casings. They just say if you're going to shoot the 300 yard target to make sure you're going to hit it because "they'd rather not put out fires".

In a week or so, I believe the new range opening in Poway, CA will permit it. So, about 100 miles if you live in the southern half of LA.

If you look at the post date it was in March 2014. Could have changed since then
