Default My trip to Vegas

Just got back from an amazing trip to Vegas. Drove there for the first time (From Stockton) and brought my guns with me. Got to the South Point Hotel (off strip) and found out a gun show was going on. After changing my underpants I went to the show. Easily twice as big as the Cal Expo shows I've been to with great deals on 30 round mags for scary black rifles and glocks. Also some good deals on Romy G kits ($325) in good shape. I picked up some items and went shooting.

Drove out north of Vegas on 160 into the red rock canyon and went shooting in the desert. Nice spot about 45 mins out of town on BLM land that was similar to shooting at Spenceville but there was no one else there. Got some good long distance shooting it with my AR and went through about 5-600 rounds of pistol ammo. Had a really good time and went back to the gun show the second day. Got some targets the second day (10 for $4).

Only gambled away $11, and did not do much else. We only went for a family friend's birthday party (who lives in Henderson).

My only suggestions for shooting in those hills is to make sure you bring some heavy duty target stands (very windy), bring water, and bring chapstick. We made it out there in our minivan, but a truck or 4x4 would have been preferable. Lots of rocky dirt roads. Here are some pictures and the target stands I use.

Also bring trash bags, leave it better than it was before you got there!

BRAVO! Great comment! We bring a rake, gloves and few trash bags and "leave it better than it was before we got there". We typically will rake up one remaining small pile of shotshells and leave them there with a weighted bag to stimulate thought in the next group that shoots there.

We always make sure it's cleaner than we left it! Picked up all my brass and shot shells as well as some other targets people had improvised.

Sounds terrific! The BLM land out there looks a lot cleaner than some of the BLM areas in So Cal!

Sounds like a great time! I usually take a weekly trip out to Vegas once a year. Now it looks like I gotta take a day or two from that trip and have some fun on BLM land.

The one thing I miss about living in low populated areas is being able to target shoot almost anywhere. I have some family in Michigan and when I was a teenager my family moved out there. I went to high school out there and that's when I got into hunting and shooting. We lived in this little god forsaken town but the good thing was I had a couple friends who lived just outside of town and we would shoot our guns out there all the time. No having to go to a range and pay to shoot. We would set up old TVs, refrigerators, beer bottles and stuff like that. Good times.

My friend who lives in Henderson says you can shoot guns straight up into the air its so desolate out there. Not that he'd recommend it but you can do it without getting into trouble.
