Default 2015: Major League Baseball will have metal detectors

Some stadiums will implement walk-through magnetometers or wanding for this year (2014) but it will be mandatory in 2015.

I can't find the press release at MLB.com, but this article - http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2014/...ctors-by-2015/ has the info
Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) — Entering a big league ballpark will be a bit like going through an airport by 2015.

Major League Baseball has told its 30 teams they must implement security screening for fans by then, either with hand-held metal detection or walk-through magnetometers.

“This procedure, which results from MLB’s continuing work with the Department of Homeland Security to standardize security practices across the game, will be in addition to bag checks that are now uniform throughout MLB,” baseball spokesman Michael Teevan said Tuesday.
I don't see anything at either Giants or Dodgers talking about this season - they still say 'visual inspection', but there is yet time.

Update 2/14
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/giants/...s-at-att-park/

Quote:
The Giants just announced that all fans entering AT&T Park this season will be screened with metal detectors. The change complies with MLB’s mandate that all teams begin using metal detectors by the start of the 2015 season.

Sucks, big time. Have to switch to plastic flasks.

At least you won't be able to bring a nuclear bomb into AT&T like you used to be able to do when reentering with hand stamp and ticket, they weren't even looking in bags.

Still won't protect you from getting stabbed in the parking lot!

I have so much pocket junk, it doesn't really fit in 2 hands. And I sure don't like the idea of riding BART without my pocket knives.

I wonder how many 'iphone snatchers' they'll have at the gates ...
