Default Lincoln Rifle Club Range ??

I was thinking about heading up into Roseville next week, pick up my dad and take him shooting at the Lincoln Rifle Club. My folks live within about 10 miles of there so it's close. I'd like to shoot some center fire rifle, pistol, a bunch of rim fire stuff, and possibly some clays.

Their web site seems to indicate that it's a decent facility, (as expected) but I've never been there. Anyone have any experience with this range? I don't really want to drive all the way out to SVSC from his place.

It's a nice place to shoot, clean, well run, safe, and reasonable priced. I like it and I'm a member. There are some who complain they are too strict, seriously though how is a range too strict when you have all levels of shooters? read the rules follow the rule and have fun. You will need chamber flags for all your guns, they sell them there foe $1 each if you don't have them.

Yup it's a nice place to shoot. I prefer Sac Valley but that's a bit of a drive.

Just check their website for their hours. Sometimes they have competitions or maintenance scheduled.
The website also lists rules.

Schedules are posted weekly. There's a side for rifles, and a side for handguns/rimfire. I'm down there frequently.

And that's right - no human shaped targets. You can fold the head down.

Great place to shoot. They have a trap match this weekend if you want to try your hand at clay shooting. Great people.

They are stern when it counts. Too many wannabes out there playing tacticool commando. It is a safe place to shoot and the RSO helps you improve if you need help.

Took my dad, my son, and my nephew there today and put a 1,000 or so rounds down range. Never ran into any nazi RSO's. Didn't catch the guy's name, but the RSO I spoke to was friendly and freely offered information about the range.

I found it to be a nice, clean, and safe place to shoot. Wish I had an outdoor facility like this one a little closer to home.

I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a place to shoot in that area.

If you are ever in town on the weekends, they have a trap match going on - just check the calendar for the days. For January and February, it is only $2 per round (25 clays) to play.

I love this range. Been going out there for the past year and the facilities are great. The RSO's can be a pain in the *** if they don't know you but they're good people that keep the range safe. Military members also shoot for free (except competitions) and annual memberships are a good price.

Good range. I especially like that you can get on for free with military ID. Very nice of them to do that. I still bring my own targets, feels weird to use their targets when they let you on for free.
Week day lunch time is not busy at all. Weekends can get a little busy with a little bit of wait to shoot sometimes.
The cycle of reviewing targets and clearing the line is slow sometimes. Some folks just stroll back to the line. I have to resist the urge to yell at them and say "RANGE WALK THERE SOLDIER!!".
It's run professionally (RSO's) and is a classic (old school) range.

It's not a bad range; I wish they had target stands at the 300yd line.

They are always hosting special events - specially during the summer time. Definitely check the calendar so that you don't waste a trip.

As been stated, it's a great range...... And depending on the day, you can either have a great RO or a total nazi. And while nazi days can get annoying, it's better than the unsafe drunk D-bags you can find at spenceville.

Spenceville is an accident or incident waiting to happen. The ONLY times I've ever used it was to fire .50 BMG out of a friend's Barrett. I've seen some shady characters lurking in the parking area just waiting for somebody to leave a car unlocked, a trunk open - or just contemplating general mischief.

I would have to say if you go to Spenceville, go with a group and keep your eyes open.

Yep. Totally true. I like the Lincoln range. I was surprised by a few of their silly rules though, like no targets allowed that resemble a human siloutte. They will just ask you to fold down the head part of the target and just shoot at the body.

Silly? Range is in full view of what was once a major state route. You get a few anti-gun lefty's complaining to the city/county that they are "training to shoot PEOPLE" and it's a headache that's just not worth it.

Silly rule? No.

Silly that in this state this could become or has been a problem - absolutely!

Well said DSKIT. Too many anti-gun idiots complaining. Club had to do what a good neighbor would do to stay in place.

It's an easily-handled problem, assuming that they want to enable people to practice with targets of their choice.

I do get the impression (from face-to-face discussions) that much of the range staff are really opposed to any kind of self-defense practice. I was told flatly that allowing humanoid targets would "attract the wrong element".

I was told on another occasion that if they ever started allowing humanoid targets other than IPSC-style during matches, that he would "stop being a range-master", because he "didn't want to be around people like that".

That could be simply the opinion of one person, but it seems consistent with their policies. They have every right to run their range any way they like, and I have every right to just spend my money elsewhere.

I haven't shot in years and have been there 3 times in the last few months.
Just tried out my first Black gun there and hope to stop making nube mistakes soon so I don't get (gently) lectured.
$10 is a great price compared to what I have seen elsewhere and no free-for-all like you might find at an open range.
