That's my understanding too, with a bullet button it's good to go, without being pinned. I have to say I had to think a lot about that though as I built my upper. As I understand it it has everything to do with "removable magazine" in other words if you fixed the magazine into a 1911 you could have a threaded barrel on it.

Are you referring to the CAA saddle? If so, yes it's perfectly legal.

correct
a BB makes it a "FIXED" mag
& because the mag is outside the grip,it must be "fixed" here & 10rd or less

technically, it is legal in the eyes of ATF at the Federal level since ATF did make an opinion on it.

As for Cali, the DOJ hasnt opined on it yet. it is unknown whether it is legal or illegal until a test case comes of it. However, one of our legal-eagle did comment that "he wouldnt take any chance setting up any AR pistol where the goal is to make either shouldering or making a cheek weld more comfortable." Personally, since the answer about Cali legality is still unanswered at this point, im playing it safe and did not include it on my build.

What about making it more comfortable for your cheek makes it more like a stock? Have you ever used one? It doesn't make shouldering it more comfortable in the least.

like i said previously, im only stating the personal opinion from one of our lawyers on this board (not to mention, again, that CA DOJ has made NO opinion on this matter yet, so no one knows for sure if its legit or not). you do as you wish, just remember that using "reason" in Cali courts in terms of firearm laws is pointless. The consequences are just not worth the "comfort".

My fraternal twins.
Waiting on a gas block for the bronze one. And might switch the handguard out. I'm not really a fan on the 10.5 barrel.

To bad there's no 10 cooling off period for buying grinders to prevent things like that, same for Dremel's.

I've been working on this over a year now. Billet 80% lower that I had marked so I could voluntarily register it since Its technically a pistol in the state of CA. I just got it back from Cerakote today, and I'm super excited about this little guy. I now have 7.5, 14.5, 16, 18, and a 20 along with a .308 thats running an 18inch barrel. Anyhow about this guy the plan is to build it an extra upper that will be .22 only because 7.5 inch barrels are pretty much useless for anything but playing dragon, but I was just looking for something to toy with.

Anyhow the obvious stuff.
Billet Lower
I cant remember who made the bare upper
BCG is just a milspec with no frills
The Lower parts kit was built from spare stuff I had laying around
Phase 5 buffer tube, spring and buffer (I used to work there so I got a screaming deal)
Troy forgrip
Stag muzzle brake
troy gasblock
Magpul ASAP
BCM grip
KNS anti walk pins
BCM charge handle

Yes its only 10 rounds

I just got back from a QUICK trip to the range, I put about 100 rounds through it..... HOLY FIRE BREATHING DRAGON!! Had one round not go into battery out of the 100 but its still breaking in. I'll clean, lube, and tighten everything then run a few more hundred rounds through it before I start to worry about the weapon being the issue.

Ill smooth it out with some epoxy and cerakote the whole lot, upper, lower and rail.

I seriously think the guy was a tweaker he even ground the roll pin on the inside

My 7.5" blackout ran like a clock with supersonics, I took a gamble on a $110 barrel from eBay lol. Plan on shooting some groups next time and trying subsonics as well.

Have not shot it yet. I got a 10/30 to make it look a little more balanced than a stubby 10, but I think it's a little longer than I wanted to I want to try a 10/20 in it.

Here's mine. I need to figure out some way to stabilize the handguard to the barrel or compensator to be able to aim somewhat accurately.

Double crush washer a front hand guard doughnut, between the barrel edge, and the muzzle device, then just snap it in place like it normally would. If you could find the one of these....

With the smaller hole for the light weight barrels, you'd have more material to work with.

It's a Pearce Grips 1911 adapter with a "Dragon Scale" grip. Because of the width of the grip and how it fits on with the adapter I had to use a short 45 degree safety lever.

Here's my KISS build. Still needs an optic, probably going with a red dot of some sort. Only going to be shooting 0-100 yds. A2 flash hider is temporary also, will more than likely go with a KX3 or if I don't feel like spending the $, an Ice Arms...

Just over $600 as it sits, including the tools to build the upper(not counting shipping or tax)

TR Enabling 80%
PSA blem upper with M16 Full Auto Bolt Carrier Group
ALPHA SHOOTING SPORTS 7.5" 5.56 NATO Pistol Barrel
Pistol length gas system with low profile block
Carbine free float handguard
RRA PISTOL BUFFER TUBE with Exile rubber cover
Carbine buffer
BAD lever

Going to test fire it this weekend

Ok but still not a rifle right since its 10.75' barrel and only 26' OAL so I guess its a AOW if that is true I hope you got the paperwork for it

From the Franklin Armory website:
"Background:

As many industry insiders are aware, the addition of a secondary vertical grip to a pistol creates a class of firearm called an “AOW,” or any other weapon and requires an NFA tax stamp. Franklin Armory management made the argument to ATF that the XO-26 configuration above is not readily concealable and therefore should not be classified as an AOW even though it has a secondary grip. ATF agreed.

On March 14, 2011, the Chief of The Firearms Technology Branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, authorized the sale of the above configuration without the need for any NFA permits! What is shocking is that it was also defined as a non-pistol. The 4473 would only need to be filled out with “other” checked off. Franklin Armory is proud to be the first company in the nation to be able to shepherd this project into fruition.

California residents will find that 12001 PC will still define this firearm as a pistol, but thankfully there is not an analog to the AOW classification in state law. California buyers will have to be at least 21 years of age, and the DROS form will require one to check “Pistol.”

Product Details:

The XO-26 is a cross over between rifles and pistols. The 26 refers to the absolute minimum length of the firearm as allotted by federal law. However, we chose to make the length an inch longer than necessary so that it would still be long enough to qualify as a non-AOW even if the muzzle device was removed. This length also makes it easier to see the chamber indication."

By this.. I would imagine mine meets this same definition ..
