Default PPT at Turner's in Pasadena - 1 hour paperwork time OUCH!!!!

Just read the thread about Turner's in Pasadena. On the positive, yes; all the employees there are courteous.
I was there yesterday for a PPT, briefly after 10:00 AM. What I did not appreciate was the long processing time for the PPT. From the time an employee began to help us to the time I walked out more than 60 minutes went by.
I chose Turner's Pasadena since it is halfway for both me and the person I traded with. I'm embarrassed that I recommended this location! The person I traded with apparently used an FFL in Burbank before who could have handled the transaction in significantly less than half the time.
When we set up the meeting, I figured that Pasadena was a bit closer. Hindsight, the shorter on-site time at the other dealer would have more than made up for the extra drive.
Nothing against the courtesy of the personnel at Turner's Pasadena - they are as someone stated in the other thread - one of the better locations.
I don't understand these excessive times. I've purchased or PPT'd firearms from various dealers and none of them take that long.

I have the option to pick the gun up right at the end of the 10-day waiting period, but I'm reluctant to do so since I'm afraid that a 35 minute time window on-site may not be sufficient. That means prolonged waiting period for the next weekend that is open on my schedule and another 2-hours driving time, plus whatever will be needed on-site.

In the past Turner's pointed to the new system that was giving them a hard time. However, that was months ago. I would like to get some feedback as to why this excessive amount of time is required.

Very nice people there but it took over 2 hours to do a PPT between 3 parties. On the day I picked up it took another 2 hours.

I despise turners and will never buy anything there and only do PPT there when forced to.

I despise turners also. You should have gone to Aegis in burbank. The ppt takes 20 mins and they are very friendly.

That's the one that the other involved person referred to...

I've bought firearms from Turner's in the past - the second-to-last purchase was similarly long and after an in-depth review here on CalGuns, I got a response from them that encouraged me to go back when they had a rifle on sale that I could get nowhere else at the time. That purchase went within a reasonable time frame. Sad to see that the expedient service was the isolated incident rather than the standard.

I've seen worse, every store is going to have issues like this from time to time. The last PPT I did took over 2 hours and we were the only ones in the store!

I've done over 50 combinations of ppt and purchases ranging from gun stores, pawn stores and peoples kitchen counter and only Turners takes that long.

I went there for a PPT ONCE. After taking a number and waiting our turn, we were told that we would not be helped for another 90 minutes. We ended up at Addax Tactical and were in an out (well I stayed and shot the bull) in under 10 minutes!

Turners is the slowest/longest time to do a ppt. It seems to take almost as long just to pick up after the wait

Thank you all for the listing of alternatives... I have a hunch that those will come in handy one of these days.

I wonder what it is... seems that every line has to be approved by the manager. Too few people trained to the point that they can fully trust them? What amazes me is that this approach costs them a tremendous amount of man-hours and the associated pay - funds that could be put to much more profitable use with more expedient assistance to their other customers.

Anyhow - I think on my way home from the pick-up I'll stop at Ammo Brothers and make a couple of needed purchases there.

I think they do this on purpose to discourage ppts and focus on retail only.

While that would make sense, the majority of the new firearm's purchases I made there required similarly long . Exception was the last purchase, just after I had fielded a major complaint, both here and directly to their corporate office.
I guess the squeaky wheel got the grease....

I did 2 PPT's at Turner's Norwalk this past Sunday. Mgr checked in the 2 guns from the seller at 1:35 and I was back in my in my car by 2:15. The mgr. was the one who did the DROS. So maybe I was just lucky....

Why do people still do PPTs at Turner's?

I don't want to throw a blanket on the parade but I've had pretty good fortune with Turner's and PPT's. One time a new employee was having trouble but I think it was his first time so I cut him some slack.

I used the Turner's in Kearny Mesa and San Marcos. Does anybody have any alternatives in the general San Diego area?

I like Turners Pasadena but their PPT process is nuts. It makes no sence that it takes soooooooooo long to do the same process as other locations do so quickly. It just doesnt add up, and that of course is after the painfully long wait to even get started.

I've already drawn my consequences... while they had a good deal on Glocks awhile back, I placed my order through JT's Firearms in Irvine. No Drama, no unnecessary wait... It'll go into DROS as soon as it can

Not sure why everyone is having issues, I've done 3 PPT's at Turners Pasadena this year alone and was there no longer that 15 minutes each time! Check your gun at the counter, state your business, fill out your paperwork and it's done! I've even goofed around one time shopping around during the process and it still took less than 20 minutes for the entire process.

I did three PPTs at Turner's over the past couple of years, one each in Orange, Pasadena and Torrance - the experience was around the same time frame each time.
in comparison PPTs at Ammo Brothers in Cerritos, Insight Range and at the OC Indoor Range in Brea took about 20 minutes, at JT's about 15.

I'm glad you had a better experience. For my part, I put a value to my time and when I factor that in, I gladly pay $25+ above Turner's price and get a timely service.

Sunday morning, 1030, in and out in 30! Maybe you are going in at the busy hours. Pasadena has a computer that is dedicated to PPT's only and Steve will get you in and out in under 30! So Sunday morning or weekday dinner hour otherwise you wait because there are 20 people ahead of you. Pull a number and go get a burger at Lucky Boy!

Tyler, I wish I could get that statement in a signed and binding form....

We went in first thing in the morning and got serviced right away - it's not the wait - the 60 minutes is the actual times with the clerk at the terminal.

Actually - the transfer at insight was during weekend range hours. They were busy and still beat Turner's processing time by a huge margin. Part of the problem at Turner's seems to be inadequate training of some of the clerks who spend a rather significant amount of time asking their manager to clarify details.

In any case - Turner's already lost my business on one new purchase, a second one will follow in due course, most likely also at JT's.
In the past the guys from Turner's used to respond to threads like this one. The fact that they do not do this anymore is one more indication that they apparently do not need the additional business.

I skipped an earlier pickup date since I was very sure that the 45 minute window I would have had in the store would have been insufficient, especially after some of the postings I saw here.

'Nuff said - the only things I will go back to Turner's for are items that do not require DROS. Three bad experiences, no response from Turner's to this last post - they're OUT.

You've got a point there - wanted to give them one more chance after a rather good experience with a purchase earlier this year - that was after an e-mail exchange with their corporate office where they explained that the transition to their new inventory system was complete and that the long processing times were supposed to be history.

They wasted their opportunity... i just want to prevent others from making the same rather disappointing experience.

I've done 4 PPT's at various Turner's (San Marcos, Pasadena, Reseda, Signal Hill).

They are ALWAYS SLOW. Amazingly slow. Ridiculously slow. Plan on spending at least 200% more time here than ANY OTHER LGS in SOCAL with the exception of Ammo Bros (who are by far the Kings of SUCK).

The only thing that rivals their horrendous wait times is the absolute crap attitudes of some of their staff. They do have some good workers, generally the managers.

But a lot of their staff are shockingly abrasive and take perverse pleasure in being rude to customers.

Busy or empty, doesn't matter. I think the reason Turners (and ammo bros even more) are slow is they have checklists and extra forms and require everything to be double or triple checked. That and they are just slow. I have had good luck at OC Indoor Range, Alamo Pawn, OC Armory, and Annie's get your Gun. Repeatedly. They know what they are doing and don't waste time. In the long run you save time if you need to drive a bit further but don't waste two hours of your life waiting for a manager to check on your forms or sitting another 10 - 15 minutes in line while the girl at the register tries to figure out how to ring up the items of the guy in front of you.

I've had most my PPT's done at Turner's in Pasadena. All 30minutes or less. I recommend going on a day that's not busy (Thurs mid-day or Sunday mornings are best imho)and close to opening or mid-day there. Always have everything ready in hand and there will be no issues. I was there yesterday at 1137am, walked in and PPT completed by 1150am. I recommend Dom or Jen for the PPTs.
