Default Steele Peak BLM shooting/Perris

This is the location of the last cleanup here in the IE. I plan on going to shoot there tomorrow (Sat.) morning. I will be there early so as to avoid the crowd (hopefully) and the heat.

I have a new armored 8" steel targt and I'm going to test it with four of my rifles to see how it does. In case anyone plans on being up there then, I have a greyish, blueish Honda Pilot with a disabled plate. It is a 4x4 without the truck 4x4 clearance, but I think it will get up there better than my 4x2 truck. I only made it up with my truck on the cleanup day because the baby bulldozer fighting the fire packed down the hill on the dirt.

I'll be either wearing a blue Calguns shirt or a grey Zombie Barstow BLM shirt. Feel free to come by and say hi!

That's good to know, thanks. Is yours the 4x4.

I also figured if I get up there early, the true 4x4s will not have had a chance to tear the hill apart and make it difficult to drive up. This will actually be the first time I've used the feature since we bought the car in 2006, so it will be nice to see how it works.

No, it isn't the sameplace as Maywood, tho it is nearby. Maywood is a private club I believe and the place I'm referring to is Bureau of Land Management land or BLM land for short. It is by the nursery on the left side. There is a large hill you have to go up to the shooting area.

You may notice a lot of casings and shotgun hulls on the lower level, but per the rangers, it is illegal to shoot there since that area is not 150 yards from the road as required.

It is open to the public since it is public land and there is no charge, so you are welcome to come and join me me as is anyone else. You just have to be careful where you shoot. The fire incident I referrred to at our cleanup was due to a shooter (not part of our group) who was told not to shoot where he did. His rounds hit some rocks and some nearby brush ignighted. He took off, but was later caught by the rangers down the road. He has probably already received the bill to fight that fire.

LoL. We designate that first spot as the location for the SCION crowd. You know, the hamsters that can't afford a real 4x4 to go any further...

This is interesting. I would like to come out and join you as well but I dunno how my vic will handle it and the ranger might not make it. Maybe I can see if the ranger will make it anyways.

At this point it is about a 22% chance of making it out though. I said a few anti mohammad things in antoerh post so there may be a jihad on my head and I may need to fight off some towel collectors which will keep me from leaving the house without an armed chp/fbi escort. LoL.

In the event that I do not make it out I hope all goes well for you out there.

If you are going to have some jihadists follow you to the site, it might be better for me if you don't come. Oh, wait a minute.....a bunch of guys/girls with firearms enjoying a day shooting and some jihadists showing up. It could work out to be an interesting day. Come on up!

I hope you can make it; one more makes it a good day of shooting.

That lower area is getting pretty messy. I posted pics on the Perris clean up thread.

It was a pleasure on my side to meet you and your friends also. I really like the Sig rifle.

elfstone, sorry you couldn't make it. I pulled over as I turned on each street to give you the name and which way to turn. It went to voice mail each time, but perhaps another time will work out better.

When I arrived, there were only a few trucks there, but shortly after I arrived, a bunch of trucks began driving up. I did discover pretty fast that an umbrella pole will not screw into the hard ground there. I left when the sun broke thru the clouds as it was getting hot. Next time, the canopy.

I was happy to know the 4 wheel drive on my Pilot got me up the hill easily even tho it was torn up.

I advised the people shooting on the flat area at the entrance that per the rangers, it was illegal to shoot there since it wasn't 150yrds. from the road. I was just giving them a head's up. I don't know what they did as I left afterward.

Eat Dirt, the Calguns sign at the bottom of the hill was still there, but the one at the main shooting area up the hill was gone.

Did you guys go out there this weekend? I read in another thread that there was a gate installed on the road that prevents access to this site. Can anyone confirm this?

Excuse my ignorance - is there only one spot of BLM to shoot in Perris? Is Steele Peak the same place as the most recent clean up?

I thought it was the same place, but I could be mistaken, I am public school educated after all.

Steele Peak is the same place as the cleanup and no, there is no gate blocking access. In fact, there is no gate period.

Is Steele Peak accessible by car? I know there is the hill portion to get up and then it levels out, but that's not 150 yards from the road so that's a no go for shooting. The rest of it follow a pretty gnarly dirt road though and I can't take my car that way. Is there any areas up there that aren't too bad and would be accessible by a car?

The initial hump to even get to the hill is kind of bad, but I see cars on the other side all the time. You could do it but I would recommend a truck. 4x4 would be nice, but my bro's s10 2wd can handle it no prob.

Yeah I drive a Mustang. It's not lowered or anything, but I don't think it would tackle that hill well. I'm having such a difficult time finding BLM land to shoot on that is accessible by car. Do you have any suggestions?

Just heard of this place. My friends live in Tenecula and would love to check it out as well. I can't seem to locate a road name to take or directions. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Anyone know if this place is open today. How to find out? Coordinates? I went by what thought was the entrance and the gate is closed

I get my Kia Soul up there all day. I've seen a Prius up there. Hit it with momentum and avoid the ruts.

Was there with three others yesterday (Sat). It was wide open with very little crowd compared to my previous visits. But just as littered.

Red face Steele Peak Hours

I'm new to shooting- I've climbed this area, but never shot here- Are there any noise ordinances here regarding how late you can shoot? or is there an etiquette regarding it? I don't get my new shotgun until after 7p the day I can pick up, and I wanted to take it out that night since I leave for vacation the next day and won't be able to shoot it until I get back, but I don't want to piss anyone off shooting there around 10... thanks!

This is in the Riverside County shooting ordinance
Quote:
Section 5. It shall be unlawful in either the Western Zone or the Eastern Zone to
shoot or discharge any firearm between one-half hour after sunset and one-half hour before
sunrise of the following day.
There are neighbors close enough that may call the cops after dark.

YEP.

Too much trash from a-hole shooters looking for a place to shoot and don't mind littering since it is only garbage... Gates closed...

AND THAT is why we should never tell anyone else where shooting places are in our forums...
