Default 25 years in today

where the hell has it gone is what I want to know. yeah I have only been a Reservist my whole career but who cares not many people I know have done this heck there are Soldiers in my unit today that can't even do 2 years let alone 20 years.

an old friend from when I got in just retires a LTC earlier this month. she went active after Desert Storm.

again where the hell did this 25 years go.

Congrats - Good work SSG!! It would have been 29 years for me this year, but I have some serious broken time between active federal and state reservist!

Very nice. 25 years in the military is worth about 50 years as a civilian. Not sure what that 35 year worker is on about. Thank you for all the hard years! I'm not quite to 8 now myself.

Congrats, do you have enough active time to get retirement soon or do you have a ways to wait before the checks start?

Sounds about right lol. Heck I like it. I serve my country and not deal with the drama if active duty. On the flip side the experience of active is different. But I also work as a civilian for the army for the last 11 years so I'm kinda full time in way or another lol.

Can't retire because my DOD job requires Reserve membership as its called. I would love to retire and keep my civilian job at the shop. I work with great people who all have been to Afghanistan or Iraq.

I know of nearly an entire squadron that actively commands and controls a satellite constellation like that. They wear their uniform, but day to day they're GS-11. Freaking non-prior service airmen start out making more than I do with LA differential of 27%, haha.

Air Reserve Technicians, they have to be in the Reserves and go to drill but Monday through Friday they are civilians in uniform. I had a good friend who is an ART LtCol. My wifes AFSC has Reserve Tech positions but they are few and far between, plus the air bases they are at suck. Congrats to the OP, military years must seem like dog years lol.

Congrats, I finished at 26.5 AD. Being a reservist AND working a civilian job is hard. A lot of work off drill after your regular job, pissing people off at work when you pull your two weeks, and then if you are deployed.

When I did retire, I had 120 days leave saved. Too many deployments and leave waviers, but 120 days terminal leave was sweet!

I was active duty. I keep telling these kids that 20 years goes by fast. I was in the Navy from 86-06. Retired at 39 to a second career with a nice pension. I run across too many guys including guys I served with who look back and wish they stuck it out.

Yep, these guys are California Air National Guard however. Same deal though. They share 24/7 ops with a full active squadron in Colorado that I was in. They poach a lot of people with Palace Chase $$, haha. Most of the people I know there now I either taught (tech school instructor) or worked with in the active squadron.

We are miltechs and in the Army Reserve. Thankfully we dont have to wear our uniform to work. The National Guard across from our shop does.

I did 12 years on AD, 6 years as a traditional reservist, and 6 years as an IMA reservist. I could have done another 12 years in the reserves, but I figured 24 years total was enough. Congrats Chris!

Congratulations. 25 years is a long time. As a reservist how many times have they deployed or activated you? Just curious.

3 yrs Reserve, 3 yrs Active duty and 5 yrs Fed.

Personally I thought there was more drama on the Reserve side. But either way enjoyed my time on both side.

Congrats and thanks for your service.
I only did 9 years split active and Guard. But I just past the 25 year mark in my civilian career (LE) and will be the first to say 25 years of military service would have been far more rewarding.

I have 12 in civil service now. got tired of losing my job to the Reserves and not being hired after 9/11. so now I don't have that problem. deployment came and went no issues at all. gotta go to BNCOC no problem, AT no big deal either. being a DOD employee is better than some of the A-hats I have worked for.
