picked up my AR parts from Paul yesterday... very pleased with the quality! Looks and feels great!

I'm hoping to have time this weekend to build it... will post pics when it's all together.

I will definitely use OC Custom Coatings again!

Not to worry my lack of camera skills rivals those of no one. Who cares? Gun porn is good even blurry!

Can't wait to see 'em.

I took some pics last night - this is one of those true instances where photos do it no justice... my limited photog skills couldn't really get the true color... it's two-toned Coyote Tan and FDE:

after having everything laid out - I couldn't wait till the weekend to put it together (that's why I didn't post pics last night, by the time I was done I didn't want to deal with editing my crappy pics )

Thumbs up

it's almost addictive... now I can't wait to get something else in there!

BTW, the finish is pretty damn durable... I was relatively cautious when putting it together - taped critical areas (bolt catch roll pin area and receiver under the dust cover)... and was reluctant at first, but no scratches or chips - other than a trifling little mark when I got overzealous getting the bolt catch roll pin flush (it's hardly noticeable unless you look real close in the specific area...

Big thumbs up to OC Custom Coatings!

I hear ya. I went from 2 lowers, to 6 lowers and now a full custom coated shotgun. Addictive FOR SURE.

However, ya got a one off gun!

yeah, I'm really looking forward to seeing your 887 Nitro Mag... I have one too - wicked looking gun even stock - I'm sure it will look even cooler with your custom design!

Yeah, Paul thinks this the gun that will show the artwork the best. We had many choices, but the 887 Nitro Mag does have a lot of real estate to coat.

Who knows, yours might be in Paul's shop some time soon.

That color combination is sick (sick as in GOOD). I have a lower being coated in MagPul Foliage Green right now at Paul's. I was thinking of the Magpul Foliage Green and the Armor Black (flat black) as a color combo.

In fact, I have 6 lowers at Paul's right now. He just sent me the final proof of the custom engraving and I gave him the green light to finish one lower complete. If that one turns out RIGHT, then he will move forward and custom engrave the rest of the lowers.

Here are the Cerakote colors I picked out with Paul's assistance. The first 4 are AR15 lowers:
1. Magpul Foliage Green
2. Satin Aluminum
3. Burnt Bronze
4. Armor Black

The 5th and 6th lowers are AR10 lowers:
5. Satin Mag (It is an actual custom mix by Paul. This will be a one-off custom color created by Paul)
6. Blue Titanium

Paul and I have a TOP SECRET Remington 887 Nitro Express 12g project brewing right now. It too, will be a one-off, custom whole gun design and Cerakote color combination. It's not really top secret, but I thought I'd dramatize it a bit.
Paul is creating the design and once he is done with that, the shotty will be dropped off to him for the work to be done.

I know, I know...

Just be patient, the pics will come soon enough.

Later,
-Ron

wow im impressed, just watched the videos and it seems that cerakoting is more than just for looks. its even better for the bolt carrier group than nickle boron. So whats the difference between cerakote and microslick? Do you guys typically cerakote the lower, upper, barrel and then microslick the bcg? Are there any other parts that will need to get microslick besides the bcg?

Will definitely microslick the bcg, why not the pin? Is it possible to cerakote the outside of the barrel for corrsion resistance while microslicking the inside of the barrel for lubrication? Same question for upper receiver, cerakote outside but microslick the inside!!!

Just wanted to post my experience with OC Custom. First, let me say that Paul is wonderful to work with. Sincere, experienced, and open to any and all questions. He is very good at communicating as well. I left my rifle with him for an extended period of time due to some traveling, and he had no problem holding on to it until I get back. The quality of work is excellent. But what really sets him apart his customer service. Not once in the process did I feel like I had unanswered questions, or hesitant about going forward wit the project. He is truly an asset to Calguns, but ESPECIALLY for Orange County people. I'm really glad I was able to find someone that provides this service locally. In my opinion its much easier and more personal if you are able to drive over to the shop and talk to the guy that will be touching your weapon. In short, give him a call/email, you will not regret it!

I had him cerakote my AR, and am very happy with the results. Its just a "simple" Tungsten Grey, and I had him do the barrel Black. Also had him do two magazines to match.

I brought him my entire (assembled) rifle, minus the optic. He did the complete tear down, prep, cerakoting, and re-assembly for me, all for a VERY reasonable price. I'm going to the range on Monday to see if it still goes bang, but I'm very confident that all went well during re-assembly

Anyway, here are the pictures that you all came for:

After:

Talk about night and day!!! Your AR is gorgeous. Gotta love the gun porn!

Not that the all black was bad, but Holy Shnykies...that is a transformation. Paul does EXCELLENT work. He just sent me some sample pics of the first lower and I am PLEASANTLY surprised. I can't wait to get them all back to finish up my review.

More to follow...

Many of you have seen the Hello Kitty AR15 that was done in Duracoat at Riflegear... But have you seen a Hello Kitty Kriss Super V in Cerakote?
Our shop just finished this custom rifle:

That looks cool! My daughter would love one of those. Her CX4 Storm 9mm carbine is dressed in all black, but this may be more up her alley.

First off, Paul's communication is EXCELLENT. He does not leave you hanging and responds to texts and emails immediately.

I, literally, had a zillion questions and Paul was patient in his explanations and demeanor towards someone he has never met in person. I can't say the same for other vendors on this forum who make you feel like you are wasting their time.

I have 4 lowers at Paul's shop awaiting some custom engraving and Cerakoting. I am waiting for the artwork proofs to authorize the work to move forward.

Paul worked with my schedule in order to coordinate my trips to the OC. The lowers were completed at Arms Specialty and Tool (Gabe's shop) and then dropped off to Paul @ OC Custom Coating. Talk about one-stop shop. The 2 shops are minutes apart.

I've seen Paul's work on Rick's (South Coast Outdoorsman) Mossberg Shotty. That thing is gorgeous in the Magpul Green with the black furniture. The Cerakote looks to be one tough SOB. My lowers are not done yet, but if they are anything like Rick's Mossy, I will be more than happy with the final turnout. I chose some crazy colors, but I will leave that top secret until part 2 of the OC Custom Coating Review. When these 4 get done, I have 2 AR10 lowers in transit to me. I will complete the other 20% at Arms Specialty and Tool and then get them over to Paul. This is going to get me divorced. I have the following on the immediate wishlist to get coated:
1. Remmy 870 Express
2. Saiga 12
3. Saiga 308
4. Zastava N-PAP AK

Until then...Do not hesitate to email, call, text, send smoke signals, Morse Code, whatever...Just call and get your stuff done with these guys.

For all you haters, I am not a family member, employee, personal buddy, lawyer or business partner of Paul's. Just an honest CG'er who feels like any CG Brother wanting to know the real deal when it comes to coating will get my honest opinion and review.

Part 2 to come with pics!

-Ron
Here is a teaser pic before I start my full detailed review or Part 2! I am scheduled to get the lowers back this week and drop off my 887 Express and a S&W 686 revolver.

The lowers are naked but will be completed this week. Paul's engraving work is on full display. I will show the other side in the review:
