can anyone help me identify if i have "new" or "old" features on my new M&P 9? i read something about notches on the barrel... the date on the test cartridge is 7/10/13. serial # starts with HPR. also, what difference do these features really make? ( this is my first handgun ). thanks in advance.

I think the pro series have a newer barrel with a faster twist rate. Hopefully someone will correct me if i'm wrong. |

If you know how to take apart your gun, you can tell by removing the sear housing to see if there's a large hole in it. The updated version does not have the hole. You can also look at the sear. I think the old version is a bit rounded off and flatter at the top compared to the new version which is actually the same sear as the pro series now. The new barrel should have 2 dimples and not just associated with the pro series. The slide stop looks a bit different from the regular one too( i think its a bit more textured/angled) My 4/13 M&P9 has all the new features.
Now I just realized few days ago that the CA roster model might not have any updates because it might require it to be resubmitted for testing (not sure, just a guess) |

I don't know how often manufactures actually make changes without releasing as a new version?... If second submittal is required, I doubt they will bother to release them in CA (with the new micro-stamp garbage). |

I believe I read a while back that any internal modifications of working parts require it for retesting. I'd assume the sear housing changes with new sear and springs would drop it off the roster. These were parts adopted from the Pro series and VTAC series that never made it to the roster.
Gen4 Glocks required retesting (which they refused) because of the mag release change and dual recoil rod? |

I've only had mine for a little while.
Other than a milled slide for my RMR02 and suppressor height sights I haven't done much to it. Looking to pick up the RAM and Trigger kits from APEX. Anyone have any experience with these? How far would you go. DCAEK, RAM, Trigger? Are these hard to install? Last edited by squackatu; 08-27-2013 at 10:09 AM.. |

Thanks... The slide was done at ATEI. I only sent the slide. Now that I had done it i wish i had sent the whole gun and had them do a Stipple job on it.
Shoots pretty good for an M&P though... I'm used to my Kimber Warrior II so it took a little getting used to but not too bad! |

The USB, on the other hand will require a decent vice/brass drift/hammer combo to remove the rear sight. I used a sight pusher I bought from midway specifically for the m&p to make the install a breeze. |

Just got my M&P 9 Pro Series C.O.R.E.
Gotta take her out to see if she needs APEX parts. I may actually stipple both of my M&P's, if I can grow a pair. Has the JPoint sight on it. That will take shotgun duty when I get an RMR. Last edited by MindBeyondAverage; 10-08-2013 at 9:20 AM.. |

Well, the trigger actually feels real nice. Just got it a couple of days ago, so going to the range tomorrow to see.
If it does, I may just do the whole shebang and get the aluminum trigger as well. |

I dry fired a standard M&P trigger a few times and from what I can tell, night and day. Your CORE should be better than an actual M&P, I forgot about that. So it's probly decent. Congrats on the purchase. |

My Pro9 trigger was pretty bad in the take up. It felt like the I was rubbing a spring against a surface. It's only noticeable in the pretravel so after the first shot, if you shoot to reset, you don't really notice it at all. The USB with my apex comp kit got rid of it. It also lightened the trigger by a good amount (the whole kit). I still have a stock trigger on my 40c and it's almost night and day compared to my FSS and Comp kits but it's not something I want to spend another $70 on atm. Also new gen FS (4 1/4") non CA versions seem to have a better trigger than the Pro/Core series. My Pro (and your CORE from the picture) are not sporting the full set of upgrades yet. The frame and sear housing are the obvious ones.

Either way, it is leagues better than my compact, when it was stock. I'll get a good idea of what needs to be done after I run about 2-300 rounds through it, this week. |

I've only had it about a week, but it feels solidly built, and it sure is bright. I tested it on myself by flashing it at a mirror at about 10 ft and it definitely ruined my night vision for a few minutes. Nutnfancy did a video on it that sold me.
