Default Mare's Leg Picture Thread

Okay, I realize this pistol is more of a niche firearm and the thread will probably be pushed back by the more popular pistol threads, but heck, didn't find one by searching so I'll start one. Just got Rossi's version of the mare's leg, the Ranch Hand, in .357 mag/.38 special.

Haven't gotten a chance to fire it yet. Just got it cleaned and lubed up. Been working that lever action a bit to smooth it out as it was a bit rough initially out of the box. Looks like a fun pistol. Only mods I can see so far that I'll be making are a sst follower to replace the plastic yellow one and a new front and rear sight. I hear Rossi Ranch Hands are notorious for shooting very high straight out of the box. Will verify that with mine once I get to the range, but I'll still be replacing the sights even if they are true as the buckhorn sights and gold bead front sights just don't work for me. Gonna go with the Marbles Bullseye rear sight and a green fiber optic front sight. Wanted something with a fast target acquistion and that combo looks like it might work for me.

Anyways, since it's still a stock gun, no need for more than 1 or 2 pics till I get the sights replaced at least.

Here's one just before it went into jail at Mount Pleasant Arms. Peter managed to order and get it for me in 3 days.

And, of course, when I got it home finally.

I just picked my Rossi Ranch Hand 44mag up at Tracy Rifle and Pistol the other day. It was $500. I can't wait to go shoot it.

Here's a little update to my Rossi Ranch Hand. Got around to installing new sights.

Front is a Marbles 3/32 Ivory bead sight with a .530 height and .340 base width.

Rear is a Marbles Bullseye sight with 2 3/4 base length.

Trying to get you guys a rough sight picture with a camera phone in one hand and handgun in the other.

Really like this combo. Target acquisition is much faster for me when compared to the stock buckhorn sights.

What keeps this from being labeled as an sbr, some it has what looks like a stock? Is it because the grip is so short it can't be shouldered?

The fact that the receiver is dros'd as a handgun.

Yeah, definitely. Been thinking of getting "Zoe" burned unto the side of the stock and "I aim to misbehave" on the other side. You know, just for the hell of it.

New bag to carry the Ranch hand plus a shoulder carry pack. These are the Skinner Flat Takedown case in 26" length plus the Voodoo Tactical Breacher's Short Shotgun scabbard.

Do these have to be sold as SSE?
If so, do they have to be kept single shot?

Yep, have to be sold as SSE, and, no, you can return it to its original factory configuration after purchase. Or you can PPT one in factory condition if one comes up in the marketplace.

For mine they just put a wooden dowel in the magazine tube. I got it at Tracy Rifle & Pistol.

Anyone know if you could lengthen the stock without turning it into a SBR? If so, how much? How about adding a 2 inch recoil pad? Still a SBR?

You must not shoulder it.
Thus, no point in adding a recoil pad.
