what I was told was a lot of people backed out of their orders so they are just filling those spots.

Damn as someone who is looking to purchase their first handgun, I am disappointed to hear that the Shield is not currently available. It's easy to conceal and if it proves reliable, has a nice trigger, and low recoil I'd say it's a winner.

If not then the M&P 9c would do you just fine as your first handgun. If you live in California and you are not a LEO, it is not that easy to obtain a CCW permit anyway, so concealability shouldn't be a factor in your selection process. I just gave up waiting for the shield and picked up the M&P 9c and I am just as happy. The only thing I can say is the trigger reset is almost non existent but I got used to it and can shoot fine with it. Whenever the Shield ever appears ,this year or next , I will buy it then... but I'd rather hold on to my money than let Turner's hang on to it and earn all the bank interest. |

I think that is one of the better comparison reviews on Youtube between the M&P 9mm Shield and M&P 9mm Compact.
It should help people decide whether you wan to wait or not for the smaller Shield ... |

In my opinion. I very solid, handsome pistol compared to a Glock (but I'll still plan get a Glock at some point - just because.. ![]() I like the ergonomics and the feel of the pistol in my smaller hand. The ability to use full-size M&P mags if available. I had a failure to feed on the second round on my very first mag but I haven't had any issues since and shot around 150 rounds on the first day. I can go on but I would just be reitterating what many has been saying on Youtube. Cons: Can't get any extra mags easily and if you source one they already $33 each MSRP and up to $60-$120 from private sellers. This is the biggest negative for this pistol. This is not faulting the pistol but simply caused by the current environment. I miss the feel of a solid trigger reset. Sometime I feel it , sometimes I don't... I *believe* the M&P 9C version I bought cannot be installed with the APEX RAM that offers the solid reset feel it has a different sear housing block. I don't regret my purchase but if the Shield comes out I might still buy one as well because of the low price point as well as get my girls into pistol shooting... |

Just bought the 9mm Shield from Riflegear for $500 + $100 for SSE on a lark without researching it.
![]() For some reason I thought $500 was the street price for it, probably because that's what the M&P 9 goes for. |

For me I'd just wait for the excitement to die down, as I knew that it was being offered for $399 at Turner's for the CA compliant version. I'll just get one when it does comes in... Where did you do the SSE ? |

Yup, it is.
http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ Search Smith & Wesson and it will be in the top 3 on the list. I'll wait until 2014 on this. Hopefully by then the stock will have caught up and there would some sales after the initial "first have" frenzy is over. Last edited by vintagedude88; 08-18-2013 at 12:24 PM.. |
