Default Buying a rifle from the PX

Do any of you guys know how buying a rifle from the PX works? I want to buy a rifle from the PX when I head over to Fort Leonardwood this month and bring it back to California.

You can only buy a firearm in a state in which you are a resident. For active duty personnel, the state in which your Permanent Change of Station orders is your state of residence, regardless of vehicle registration, drivers' license or voter registration. Yes I realize some of us with IDs from free states could in theory buy weapons in another state on leave and the FFL would never know; but that is not legal.

If you are going to Fort Lost in the Woods on TAD/TDY orders you cannot buy a rifle at the exchange. If you are PCS'ing there, you can, but if you need to check if it is California legal (e.g. off list lower on the AR) before you bring it back. Otherwise, it is the same as any other gun store in that state and they follow state regs.

Most Exchanges will require to to provide orders assigning you to the base or one in the state if you are on Active duty. I know at JBLM I had to put what unit I was assigned to as well and contact information for them. That is why I stocked up before I PCS'd to the fabulous foreign land of California.

Some good hoggin' at Lostinthewoods. Won almost 300 bucks back in the day and got a gun there. Check the pawn shops in St. Joseph first.

Purchased a rifle maybe a month or two ago. Only thing I showed them was my CAC card and CA DL. This was in WA though.

In Washington non residents can but rifles and shotguns but not Pistols. If I recall correctly the ATF regulation on state residency apply only to handguns when you PCS.

i hate you... i had to jump through flaming hoops at Bragg. I just said F it and went off post . 1380 E from the PMO , Weapons permit and BOOOOM!!! was shooting the weapon 30 minutes later.

I like the NC law about firearms . You got apply for purchases , wait 5-7 days and if you are green lighted you come back ang get your weapons permits and purchase same day. SO much easier than Calis " buy the weapon first and then we will see if its ok for you to have it"

Check your local PX. I know Edwards sells weapons. Pistols, rifles and a couple AR platforms.

Really Edwards does? I've been Travis a lot, and they have nothing. Too bad Edwards is 400 miles from me.

Nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than walking in and out of the PX with a new firearm all within 20 minutes

Pendleton: must have 90 days on station, Original orders and a letter from your CO. I bit the bullet thrice and just rather pay the sales tax and get my weapon without the red tape.
