Hey all,
Tom here, I'm not on here much unfortunately, but I did meet a few of you guys and gals at the Burro Canyon zombie shoot back in November, and it was a blast. Great community! Reason for this post is that I've just finished my AR build...well a few weeks ago and have 20 rounds of 5.56 XM193 down the tube without any hick-up's. I'd like to know if anybody in the I.E. area, or if I must, anybody in SoCal hunts coyote. I hear the meat is good for stew, maybe?, and the pelts a can be sold. However, I'd like to find somebody who would be willing to help me out with any license needed, any spots to go to, but most importantly, I'd like to possibly get a few people together to go out with. I'd like to try my hand at it at least once, but I know nothing about going out for a hunt. I don't want to let anything go to waste, animal internals don't bother me. I'm looking for the experience, and if I like it, then it could be another hobby. I just cant tell the wife what's for dinner. ![]() My AR is really basic and cost me about $650 OTD to build from scratch, I'm proud of my first build and the fact that it didn't blow up on me! But, I'm pretty mechanically inclined and it was really easy to do, especially since I did my homework before the build started. 20" 1:7 twist Colt Government profile barrel, Rifle length gas tube, Solid M-16 stock, MagPul rifle length foregrip Standard FSB, flip up MagPul Gen 2 rear sight, Red Dot quick sight. Ammo Bros lower, AR-Stoner upper, Anderson Manufacturing BCG & Bolt CMMG LPK FrogLube So...any takers who would like to take me out any show me the ropes? Especially when it comes to the take. |

Hunter safety course is all you need to shoot varmints! Check out bass pro in rancho; better yet give em a call, its $25 for the class and you get a $20 giftcard when you finish! I do know right now they have classes twice or 3 times a month. Thats as far as I know right now, I havent hunted coyote down in these parts! :]

This time of year the yotes are about to start breeding and having young ones. The season is open all year, but during this time most hunters give the yotes a rest. When you do get out, this usually helps with the taste.

HAHA Thanks fishandhunt! Been looking for an easy recipe to keep on the shelf.
Tracer666, For some reason that never occured to me until today. I'm looking into class schedules and browsing the different forums for info. I'm finding out that hunting grounds are highly kept secrets, but I'm willing to put the time in in order to get out once in a while. Thanks folks! |

Completed and passed my hunter's ED/Safety course Sunday 3.17 from BPS in Rancho; and you have to buy a license in case the game warden is encountered. Almost bought a bobcat tag, if I see any Monday, I might go grab a tag. Monday is scouting day starting at 0430-0500. Going to enjoy some off-road trails, and if I happen to spot or call in anything, then came on. Thanks for your help guys/gals!

Now this sounds like a good time, need to get out and hit something other than paper and steel more often.
Anyone do long range? I've got a couple of boxes of Berger .338 300gr Elite Hunters on the shelf, just been looking for a reason to make some rounds with them.

Thanks for the help! Got a new scope for the 22-250 (Weaver Kaspa 4-16x44) and grouped nickel sized shots at 100yds on low power with a slight crossing headwind (I think thats pretty good, but I think I can do better LOL) and Rem. 55gr. pointed soft-point rounds off a rest.
Now, for the coyotes...I know nobody's going to give up their honey hole, but over the last several (5 weekends or so) I've been traveling up to Hesperia and hiking/hunting some of Honda Valley. The area from Los Flores Rd, the aqueduct, and 2mi. east of the aqueduct and have only seen one coyote. There's been plenty of Jack Rabbit, but Ive heard of a few other spots that may bring more luck. Any Ideas? Got any info you don't want out on the board can you PM me? Looking for a specific general area, not just a town or city sized area to look around in. Some thing like, "5 miles east and 3 miles north of Adelanto" is where I should start looking or something like that. I can go from there. But anyways, I'd like to PM a few people back and forth to cut down a little trial and errors, especially since I'm on a budget. Most any help will be appreciated. Thank you! |

Thanks Ken, I have all the maps that cover San Bernardino County. BLM maps, The map from BPS, and Forestry maps.
What I'd really like is to go out with somebody, to a spot that produces, but not necessarily a honey hole, and learn how to call them in, even if we don't get any, It would be nice to have a buddy/mentor of sorts to learn a few basics from. I've been reading all I can on different forums, on DFG's site, and even googling a few different things to see if I can find somebody willing to take a newb along for a hunt. I'm not looking to encroach somebody's territory, I want to make sure I'm doing everything right and them go find my own areas if that makes any sense. Thanks!! |
