Default Why does Federal use so many different brand names

Why does Federal use so many different brand names? From my understanding they also make Independence and American Eagle...?

could be they acquired some names from buying the company out and others due to pricing strategy. (ie federal brand = high end and AE = lower end)

It might be to allow customers to offer an 'exclusive' product by putting it in a box not found at other stores. Federal has also produced ammo and put it in the customer boxes. I still have a brick of Montgomery Ward .22lr that has the 'F' headstamp.

Thanks for making me feel really old! Sell ammo? I recall when they sold a full line of firearms in their stores-racks and racks of rifles on open isles for hands-on customer inspection.....Handguns were in the glass counters though

WRT to Federal and brand names. Actually Federal is one of many brand names under the ATK business. ATK has been active over the decades of buying companies that fell out of favor with investors or the public image. Over these decades they acquired many ammunition manufacturers as well. Not wanting to totally destroy brand name recognition, they kept most all of the existing names-like RCBS. They and Federal are both business units of ATK.

They also sold rifles/shotguns. I had a 22RF rifle from them. I still have one from Sears I got when I was a kid.

Yes that was a looong time ago when we carried pocket knives to school and took our shotguns or rifles to school in our cars so we could hunt after school. No camo then.

The parent company (ATK) has bought up other names. Add in the premium vs. entry line and we have what we have.

This.

ATK is global and the individual brands it owns are insignificant other than the loyalty they have built over the years. This will soon be a non-issue as everything becomes "ATK".

When I was a kid we would stop by Western Auto in Big Bear to buy .22 and some other handgun ammo for my dad. Think it was an old .32. I recall the head stamps with the big F but could not tell you what brand was on the box.

Our DRUG STORE used to sell .22s, and yes, Western Auto. Damn, I feel old, but at least I enjoyed my yesterdays.
