Default SF ammo ordinance and ccw..

I have read the bill on the 2A forum

I frequently visit SF a couple times a year for giants games and just to have fun in the city

I understand the bill bans "black talon" or ammo with the same ballistic characteristics. Now iv read that as long as your mags arnt loaded with "black talon" your good to go.

my question is if I was in SF with my ccw and had my magazine loaded with 124 grain gold dots and Im for some reason stopped by an LEO and he is uneducated to the law and see hallow points in my magazine could I be arrested?

also If I travel to SF and load my magazine with FMJ's ( I dk if I would want to do that ) I would still be in "possession" of JHP's in my vehicle. Could you be arrested for that?

Could you be arrested? Sure.

Would you be successfully prosecuted? No way to predict.

Unless there is some way to amend a bill so you would support it,
the details do not matter until the Governor signs or allows the bill to become law.

Ask CA law questions in the How CA Laws Apply to/Affect Me Forum
- most questions that start 'Is it legal ...' go there.

Not a lawyer, just Some Guy On The Interwebs.

IMHO, if you are legally conceal carrying and not breaking any laws (speeding, disturbing the peace, etc.) I would not worry about it. Concealed is concealed and the chances of an SFPD officer spotting you carrying is pretty slim. So I wouldn't even go down the "what if" road. But I guess that is just me. If you really are that worried about it, just don't carry in SF if you are concerned about it. Personally I am not that concerned.

I carry in SF with my LTC ever couple of months as well. I have a related question. If for some unlikely reason I actually have to use my sidearm for self defense, would my legal status change because I had hollow points loaded? I also hate carrying FMJ because of their inherant overpenetration tendency. Hollow point rounds are much safer and better for stopping an attack fast. Any legal opinions appreciated.

Don't LEOs have JHPs in their firearms as a standard issue?

I guess the SF LEOs intent is to inflict unjustifiable inhumane damage to the criminals that they happen to shoot in self defence. I propose that SFPD use cartridges with those lead free non-lethal copper bullets instead so they can be more environmentally friendly, sustainable and no criminals will die if they happen to get shot.

Take a look at the article I posted above. SFPD uses JHPs, but not the scary Black Talons.

I usually carry my Kimber 1911 out in SF anyways. Weather usually allows for a light jacket to conceal a fullsize .45ACP. I just load 230 grain FMJ ammo. Can't use my evil Glock's with JHP's and standard mags, since according to the libs they should be banned assault weapons.

*sigh* If you have a valid LTC, this should be the very least of your concerns. Seriously, how the heck would anyone know? And if heaven forbid, you have to use lawful lethal force while in the City, the type of ammo you use, I would think, would be of very little consequence (other than to perform effectively and save your butt!).

This is all my own opinion, but I LTC everyday (like, right this very moment) in San Francisco and I haven't given it a single consideration. Besides, BTs are old tech and I personally believe there are better rounds out there.

But come on; you have your LTC. Just keep your eyes open and enjoy life.
But watch out for that bum Smiley that hangs out on the old US Mints steps at 5th and Mission; dude's crazy. Oh and Silver Robot man down at Fisherman's Wharf is a real dick too.

Yeah in SF we don't care about any stupid laws and if we disagree we don't have to follow.
