Default today's Jr Pistol event at EFGA

Today's Jr Pistol event went really well! I only got to stay for the first race, since I had other things scheduled, though.

16 kids on the firing line, all with Ruger Mark 3 .22lr handguns, with one S&W 22A and one Walther P22 that I could see. No accidents, all of the coaches had their eyes peeled for safety and all procedures were followed down to the T. Of course there were a few technical problems, but with that many firearms, there's going to be one or two and they have to be dealt with.

It was a cold morning, and unfortunately it did not warm up that much since when the sun rose, the parts of the covered firing line got less sun. Still, it was not quite as cold as when I was coaching in the fall where it was 43 degrees. Yikes! But, everyone had fun, and most of the kids learned something about safety and accuracy. I hope they'll all be back in 2 months or participate in the Jr Rifle shoot next month.

I would encourage everyone bring their kids out to this event provided they are between 12 and 18 and you believe they can handle a firearm and follow instructions reasonably well. The event is free and all ammo is provided, but you can bring your own firearm and ammo if you'd like so long as you're using iron sights and it is a semi-automatic .22lr handgun.

Thanx. The webiste says they do two strrings each of slow fire and rapid fire. Is that correct? And they do it all at 15 yds?

How many rounds in each string?

Thinking I might try and get my 16 yr old out there for the next one, but I'd like to give him a chance at familiarizing himself with the format first.

TIA
