Obama has promised to respond to petitions that get the required # of signatures.

The president will have to explain to us why Police officers need these weapons while the rest of us do not.

Aren't these exemptions granted by the individual states, and not the feds? Don't see much happening with this, or just about every one of these petitions.

I've never understood the mentality of those people who see an idea like this and can do nothing but complain about why it won't work.

Let's face it, it won't work if your definition of work is that all laws that exempt police officers are struck down. But it might just get people talking about why police officers with plenty of backup need evil semi automatics and high capacity "clips" and everyday people should be limited to low capacity fixed mags or no guns at all. Either guns work for self defense or they don't.

ETA- Only 12 signatures? Would it be that hard to sign the blasted thing?

Ok so if the LEOS were required to follow the same rules that we are they should also be limited to 10 roung Magazines just like we are.
If we dont need more than 10 rounds for our self defense then they shouldnt nee more than 10 rounds.
That might make them think twice about the advantages to us all of having higher capacity magazines.

So 100k signatures needed, 12 acquired, 99,988 to go. And why we'd want to limit State LEO's is beyond me.

This IS JUST A STUPID PETITION SITE. They are about as credible as Craigscrap.

<grumble, grumble>

Most of them are, this one is a bit different in that the White House has committed to responding to any petition that gets 100,000 signatures. If nothing else, it is fun to make them squirm a bit over this issue.

The fact that it took 24-48 hours to get the required signatures for this is telling and hopeful for the cause. Hell, gun manufacturers should look at that as a free market survey of how things are. Instead of the whole country shi++ing on you like Armalite brought on with their moronic PR fail, they can look at it like 100k+ people dont like LEO buying guns non-LEO cant own including non-deployed military....

Cant wait for the response that its for the kids and some other bull**** about Sandy Hook being the reason that law abiding citizens shouldnt own guns. I have $100 on it that the response includes the kids safety.

If a response is given, it will be in the same vein as the form letters that Senator Feinstein's staff mails to those who took their time to contact her regarding their opposition to gun control.

Essentially, 'Thanks for writing, it will change nothing because I know what's best for you.'

interesting things is yesterday when I signed it only 19 more signatures needed. today I go back to look to see if it reached the mark and there are 25 needed.. how does a petition go backwards 6 units overnight?

Which will accomplish exactly nothing:
  • It could get 300 million signatures, he still wont address it.
  • Even if he did, he's going to give an answer that appeals to the anti-self-defense base that elected him. It would be a loss for our cause.

We need to focus our energy on things which might actually make a difference, not time wasters like this.
