Golden Bears AAR – Angeles Ranges 2/17/2013
February 17, 2013 - The California Golden Bears Highpower Shooting club held its monthly match at the private Fort Angeles Range (just west of the main Angeles Ranges area). This was a “cross the course” (XTC) match shot at 100 yards on reduced size targets to simulate 200, 300, and 600 yards. Competitors had the option of shooting 50 or 80 round matches and either match or service (M1 Garand, M1A, or AR15) rifles.
Once again Robert C. led all shooters with a 772 with 26 x's. Robert shot a "clean" on the slow prone with a 200 and 13x's. Robert's rifle was a match rifle and AR15 variant in 6.5 Grendel. Nelson G. was high Service Rifle shooter in the 80 round match (750-7x) and Kevin J. was high in the 50 round match (464-6x). All firing was completed by 1015 leaving plenty of time for extra practice or to get back home and work on that project list.
In addition to the regular matches, there are special practice matches on the fourth Sunday of the month. The cost for these will be $15, and the next one will be on February 24, 2013. Sign-ups start at 0730 with the match usually starting at 0815. The match normally ends by 1030 and the range is then used for additional practice till noon. Shooters can then use the public range after the match if desired.
