I bought a 1943 91/30 years ago at a gunshow to compliment my ww2 collection. Then years later I got a C&R (5 years ago) and RGuns had 1943 M44s for 99. Thought what the heck. I don't think I ever even shot them. Got a type 53 from Sog a few days ago. Think I'm gonna go Mosin shooting this weekend and take em all.

Looks like Wideners has excellent ++ m44 back in stock although $10 more this time - $219 + s&h and they will ship to CA on a C&R.

What was the condition of the type 53 you received from SOG?

Cabelas has 91/30s again, $149, but no online sales.

The closest Cabelas is Reno. If you were planning a weekend in Reno anyway, thats your chance. In a case like that would you drive it back or mail it back? Not sure. I like Cabelas because the Mosins were top condition with all the trimmings.

Got my two AIM 91/30s today - they are PW Arms imports, not Century. The one I looked at was a 1938 Izhevsk round receiver with a very smooth, dark stock. They are well packed in bubble wrap and tape with two inner boxes inside an outer box. I doubt AIM opened or inspected these to do any cherry-picking.

I will try to post some pics when I get a chance to unpack these this weekend.

Can you tell us how they were packed--with sling, bayonet, pouch with tool kit in its own pouch and oil can and all three numbers matching? In other words, complete? Aimsurplus is where im planning to get mine later so id like to know. The guns from Cabela's were complete and even included an extra dual-pouch which people used to hold loaded strip clips.

Actually, im hearing from friends, like one in Ohio who just bought two this week for $85 each. Is it the luck of the draw or knowing where to look? If you didnt look at the best known sources, where would you go? Thats where the cheaper Mosins are. In his case he said he just moseyed into a shop and there were a bunch, he cherry picked two. But the shop doesnt have a web site. If a person were willing to get in the car and start across the country i bet one would scare up all sorts of cheap Mosins, they ARE around still. But who is going to do that? So one becomes relegated to the popular sources which, getting 100 calls a day, see every reason to jack the prices till the pig squeals.

I received two 91/30s from AIM and I only had time to briefly look at one. They were very securely taped in bubble wrap with the bolt removed. The only accessory was the bayonet, as described in the listing.

AIM has sold both Century and PW Arms Mosins in the past, but they are out now. Who knows what they will get next.
