Default Castro Valley shoot 2/16-17, space available

Since the 2013 schedule was posted kind of late, we've actually got space available at the February Castro Valley (Chabot Gun Club) shoot. This location usually sells out 6-8 weeks in advance.

(If the weather is nice, we shoot in the open where there's no posts in the way. If the forecast is bad, we can shoot from under cover, since we now have movable target frames available.)

Shoot info is here:

Wanted to bump this since I noticed there are still a bunch of spaces. The weather's actually been pretty nice at Chabot - I shot a match there last week and it was a little windy but OK.

If anybody's holding off because they can't find .22 ammo give me a shout. I won't be at the Appleseed but I'll be at Chabot once or twice before then and I'd be willing to sell a thousand rounds at cost to anybody who's signed up. That should be enough to function test and zero a rifle and then do the weekend (nobody else, please, if I really wanted to get rid of the stuff I'd list it for sale on the commercial section).

I'm looking at revamping the course of fire for this shoot to reduce the round count somewhat, in consideration of the ammo drought. More dry practice, no 'mad minutes', etc.

Makes sense, although I remember Saturday in particular as being pretty efficient.

I've met with the other local instructors and we reworked the course of fire so the round count will be 300 or less for this shoot. About 100 on Saturday and 200 on Sunday. There will still be at least 4 AQTs shot, maybe time for more for those whose ammo supply allows. Lots more dry fire and drills. It'll be interesting to compare the results with the usual COF.

I have a rifle that doesn't have sling points and I don't want to drill into the stock can I go sling less?

You would be missing a lot if you didn't have a sling. The emergency backup plan is just to attach it with a ziptie, no joke.

Yup, just bring it on out. We've gotten pretty good with 'hillbilly mods' to get you up and running with a sling.

How did the reduced round count work out, and do you have a feel for how many rounds we'll need for the KD Appleseed in March?

It was a lot of fun. First day a little slow on the shooting but not bad. Kd I asked and was told 400 rounds.

Eljay, re the KD: Last year's count at the San Jose shoot was about 400 rounds. All but 50 or so were on AQTs, so the only way to substantially reduce it is to cut down the number of them we shoot.

Last time we did not have to run relays for the long distance shooting. We can take 8 shooters at long distance before I have to run relays, and we never exceeded that at any one time. If we do exceed that and need relays, the round count for the LD shooters will drop, though that for 25m shooters won't unless they sit some out.
