How about climbing under a table to get closer to cover without exposing too much of yourself, and still keeping your weapon pointed in a safe direction or toward the threat.
For lots of the bamboo stuff, think of anything falling on you. A clothes rack in a store, for example. If you practice getting a simple object like a log off of you while drawing your weapon you're that much more prepared for when you need to get something else out of your way.
Them shoving people out of chairs was interesting, too. If you hear a gunshot while you're sitting down at a restaurant or something, do you think you're going to get up all calm and collected like normal? No, you may fall out of your chair, or someone who got startled close by may knock you out of your chair.
