Any cartridge born from the 30-06 Springfield, 308 Winchester, or 8x57 Mauser case is a good one. Your most common Deer cartridges came from these 3 origins. (not including magnums)

30-06 family
.25-06 Remington
.270 Winchester
.280 Remington
.338-06 A-Square
.35 Whelen

308 family
.243 Winchester
.260 Remington
7mm-08 Remington
.308 Winchester
.338 Federal
.358 Winchester

8x57 family
6mm Remington (my favorite for Deer)
.257 Roberts (Remington)
6.5x57 Mauser/RWS
7x57 Mauser

I left out the Wildcats and the less common factory options
