Bought my daughter the 4" SP101 for her birthday recently. The smaller size stock grips fits her perfectly and the rubber gives her a lot of control. The fit of the pistol to the individual is very important. The GP100 was just bigger and heavier than she liked. I did a full internal polish trigger job so the action is super smooth making it easy for her to shoot it double action. She really likes the easy to pick up fiber optic front sight and adjustable rears. 5 vs. 6 shots was never an issue. She'll get it done with 5 if it comes to it.

We started her off shooting very light .38 target wadcutter loads to gain her confidence in handling the gun eventually working up to +P .38 Special loads which she became comfortable with. She'll probably never shoot .357 Magnums thru it and I would'nt want her to, just too much recoil in this size pistol. Again, the fit of the pistol is very important and the SP101 is the perfect size and perfect fit for her skill level.
