The virus needs to hitch a ride on droplets to get out of someone's lungs. Only after that droplet lands, and subsequently evaporates do you get "virus on a surface". Yes, after that you can spread it around by touching. Simple paper masks will block the droplets, which seems to be the primary vector. A bandana (or underwear as someone else recommend) would way better than nadda. You can always wash your hands. Much harder to wash your lungs...
