So here's one you may all consider heresy:

I am not a fan of the M1903 Springfield.

I like battle rifles fine. I have a cherished M1917, I've shot and enjoyed Enfield Mk I's and III's, don't have much bad to say about K31s, Mauser 98k's or Mosin-Nagants. I've even shot Krags and had a ball. But the M1903 is not something I like to shoot.

The stock fits me funny. It's narrow and is at once uncomfortable on the shoulder and gives a poor cheek weld. I don't like the feel of the trigger. Don't like those busy, improperly positioned sights (though M1903A3's are good). The magazine cutoff is silly and just one more thing to go wrong when you need it. And most of all something about the recoil just feels all wrong -- sharp and with a turn to it, like it has a high bore axis.

Yes, I understand it's well loved, served honorably, etc. You can have yours and that's fine, but if you gave me one I'd trade it. Just how it is.
