Sling stud hole repair. I would guess it pulled out and came forward taking a chip with it, thus the shape of the plug. Why oak? (Looks like maple? to me)Maybe the only thing he had, or maybe had plans to re-install the stud, and wanted a denser grain wood so it wouldn't come loose again.
