08-07-1924 = CA DROS of handgun registered it with CA DOJ.
01-01-2014 = CA DROS of long gun registered it with CA DOJ.

It's too late to avoid firearm registration, if you intend to buy any type of rifle in CA after 2013.

For CA, assault weapons registration just means it is identified differently in AFS and allows you to keep it after it is banned.

IMO... Buy it now, while you still can.
