California State Military Reserve
Just returned from my first range assignment.
Our unit was tasked with running the rifle and sidearm ranges so 300+ CA National Guard troops could get qualified. (I was assigned to the M4 range.)
We coached those that needed help zeroing - Both with iron sights and CCO's.
One story in particular:
New troop. Obviously very little time behind the trigger. Not even on paper after the first few mags.
Quickly taught the basics of proper position / grip / trigger reset / breathing.
On target and zero'd just in time to qualify.
We count his hits - 23.
He makes the qualification and is grinning bigger than ear to ear.
Made me pretty proud of him.
He listened and did exactly as he was told - And passed.
The next day I was given the same opportunity -
Shot "Expert" per US Army guidelines. Not bragging - Just a fact.
If you are like me and missed your opportunity to serve due to age -
Look into the CSMR.
Very rewarding to serve and support -
I'm thankful for the numerous opportunities and rewarding experiences...
HOOAH !!!
