Last I checked, we strip anyone coming into a correctional facility or jail of any weapons and drugs...

This is a colossal breach of security and public safety...

Actually they don't strip search everyone that comes into jail. At least in California we don't. Ask people who work the jails they will tell you the same. Very few get strip searched.

I meant "strip" as in "take away". In hindsight, poor choice of words on my part.

They smuggle the stuff in their body cavities. Without dong a physical body cavity search which requires a warrant (and therefore probably cause which requires articulable facts) you can never be certain. One person got a gun into county jail by claiming his artificial leg was surgically attach. Many modern court rulings and law suits have taken the teeth out of inmate checks.

Many people are waiting for the day when the aclu gets an inmates cell declared a dwelling and requires a warrant to search.

FYI warrant and probable cause are not required for strip searches. Reasonable suspicion is all that is required. This was as of 3-4 years ago, unknown if it has changed lately due to our ever wise 9th circuit appeals court judges.

The video is pretty bad but there has always been rumors of Leo corruption in Louisiana due to the low wages. Hell even ca CDC officers are on some payrolls to let stuff slide through and they make decent $.

Just about anyone can get a cell phone at a ca prison. County Jail is a bit tougher but they get caught every once in a while.

That video is ridiculous. Drugs have always been a problem because they can hide it, but a gun and beer cans, video camera and crap? Thats just crazy. I couldnt imagine that happening in the jails I've worked. As someone said, every once in a while cell phones get in, but I've never heard of anyone getting a gun past intake. There's a deeper problem in Orleans Parish jail, than just inmates smuggling contraband in.

Unfortunately there are some in law enforcement who believe because corruption is not widespread it doesn't need to be constantly addressed and stamped out with an iron fist
